Dalveen Poll Merino

Dalveen Poll Merino Poll Merino stud History:
In 1839, as a lad of twenty, William Richardson and his mother arrived at Port Adelaide from Scotland.

He worked around the area, including at Woodchester. In 1853 he and the Scottish lass he'd married, had the opportunity to purchase two sections and called it 'Dalveen', after the Dalveen Pass at "home". Together with their ten children, they helped found the districts of Woodchester and Strathalbyn, and community involvement continues today. They farmed cattle and sheep and horses, becoming widel

y respected for their knowledge and sound animals. A Merino stud was established in 1890 and in 1980, a Poll Merino stud was included. Fourth-generation Bill continued family traits for over sixty years, and maintained keen interest in John and Angus, as fifth- and sixth-generation custodians, currently running the Poll Merino stud and cropping cereals.
