Every week is a little bit like show and tell when Mum comes into the store.

She always arrives with something she’s been making. Lately, it’s been these rustic paper clay vessels. She also makes hand-stitched cards, paintings and all sorts of little things, usually inspired by flowers, leaves and whatever she happens to find around her.

A little while ago we were visiting my brother in Brisbane when Mum spotted some cardboard packaging he was about to throw away.

“You’re not going to throw that out, are you?”

We all laughed.

“That is some good-looking cardboard.”

So, naturally, the cardboard came all the way home from Brisbane.

And the vessel in this photo is what became of it.

I think that sums up Mum’s art quite nicely. She sees something beautiful in the things the rest of us might walk straight past.

You can find a little collection of Mum’s work here in the store, and she also has her own artist display at Whipbird. 🤎

Mum walked up to me in the shop today with something cupped in her hands and a little cheeky grin on her face.

“I bought something for the display.”

She opened her hands and there were three little cumquats, still on their branch with their leaves.

And we just stood there admiring them.
The colour of them. The leaves. How ridiculously beautiful three tiny pieces of fruit could be sitting on an old wooden table amongst the pottery and jars.

And I thought afterwards, that’s really the whole story of Handcrafted Harvest.

It’s noticing these things.

A handful of fruit from a tree. Eggs collected in the morning. Something flowering in the garden. A beautiful piece of clay. A glut of something that needs preserving.

And instead of rushing past it, stopping for a minute and thinking, look how beautiful this is.

Then making something with it. Putting it on the table. Sharing it with somebody else.

I think that’s all I’ve ever wanted Handcrafted Harvest to be. A little place for appreciating the good things we grow, make and gather — and sharing them.

When I got home, Devon said, “You smell like candles.”

Probably because I spent the afternoon pouring them. 😂

One of my favourite things to make — and I’m a little bit in love with the candles we’ve created. Simple, beautiful, and they smell so good.

When my family was all home recently, Mum started collecting everyone's used tea bags.

Not one or two.

Every single one.

They piled up beside the sink until there was a little mountain of them.

Naturally, I started teasing her.

"Mum... what on earth are you keeping all those tea bags for?"

She just smiled and kept collecting them.

A few weeks later, she walked into the store carrying a stack of handmade cards.

The tea bags had become the background. She'd stitched them by hand, added pressed flowers from the garden, and somehow turned something I'd laughed at into something genuinely beautiful.

There's something quietly satisfying about packing an order.

Wrapping each piece, adding the little details, and knowing it's about to become part of someone else's home.

Thank you for choosing handmade. It truly means the world to our little business. 🤍

Butterfly Pea Syrup is back.

We've made a small batch this week, and if the last few releases are anything to go by, it won't be here for long.

Stir it through sparkling water with a squeeze of lemon and watch it transform from deep blue to vibrant purple. Add it to cocktails, gin, lemonade or your favourite desserts for a little bit of everyday magic.

Small batch. Handmade. Back on the shelves now at Handcrafted Harvest.

We're getting so close now that I can almost smell the coffee.

The coffee machine installation is underway, and every week the dream of roasting our own coffee in-store feels a little more real. I can already imagine walking into Handcrafted Harvest on a production Friday, with the smell of freshly roasted coffee filling the building.

There's still a lot to do before we get there. Connecting a coffee roaster is a much bigger job than we ever expected — sourcing beans, organising the right pipes and exhaust systems, tracking down equipment, and working with suppliers to make sure everything is done properly.

But piece by piece, it's all coming together. We're so happy with the progress so far, and we genuinely can't wait for the day we can open the doors and share that first fresh roast with you all.
