Vanessa Wells, Wellsford Heritage Farm, will be back this year giving masterclasses on side saddle equitation in the Clydie arena. Vanessa was the champion side saddle rider at the 2026 Royal Canberra Show and her purebred Clydesdale, Larvistryn Hunter, Reserve Champion Side Saddle Exhibit.

Wellsford Huon’s (Huey) first Show 🏅 hosted by the Australian Heavy Horse Association. Huey is more Cob than any other breed, but is also registered as Clydesdale Cross. We were not aiming for placings and ribbons, but at different kind of ‘firsts’.
First show; First time in an indoor arena; First time being asked to concentrate and perform with lots of distractions.
The biggest highlights for us were Huey’s good manners in the long reining; no separation anxiety or calling out; and whilst he did have moments of being overwhelmed, he settled within minutes 👌 was it a polished performance? Goodness no 😜 but it will be one day…

EDIT: to answer all the queries about Huey's breeding. His dam is a Sec D Welsh (unregistered) x Drum Stallion (registered). This makes Huey 50% Welsh Cob; 25% Gypsy Cob; 12.5% Clydesdale; 12.5% Shire.
