Outback Yack Flower Farm & Florist

🐝 Not every bloom is meant to be picked 🐝

While it’s tempting to harvest every beautiful flower, I always make sure to leave some behind… for moments like this. The hum of bees, busy at work, reminds me that these flowers have a purpose beyond a vase.

By leaving a few to fully open and fade naturally, we’re creating a little haven, supporting pollinators and nurturing the ecosystem.

Because a thriving farm isn’t just about what we take… it’s also about what we choose to leave behind.

Things that surprised me on my farm walk around today…

1. Some Warratahs are flowering 🤯. Peaking very early since they are normally blooming in Spring 🤔

2. My possum Banksias are flowering profusely even though I have given them ZERO love

3. Macrocarpa foliage is incredibly beautiful

No shoes gardening. This is a recent rain only privilege.

It has been so dry here and no shoes wasn’t an option the flower farm was more of a gladiator arena for feet. I mean, any step could have been a tetanus situation with all the mystery stabby things!

Two days from now I’ll be back in boots like a sensible adult, but for now earthing is my jam

When you have several takes and end up using the first one 🤦‍♀️. At least the featured Warratahs were watered well 😂

Anyway, enjoy the crappy quality video. I could commit to the next one being better but it’s probably an empty promise 🤷‍♀️

Mental note to self: Fix your face in the next one so you don’t look so angry 🤪

🌼 That’s a wrap on 2025 🌼

Huge thanks to the florists who continue to choose local, chemical-free flowers and support small flower farms like ours.

Outback Yack is now resting — letting the soil, plants and farm reset. Flowers will be blooming again late Feb / early March.

From our family to yours may your 2026 be filled with good health, happiness and many reasons to smile.

Attention Florists - Luecadendron Available

Please DM if you would like some of this beautiful Jubilee Crown luecadendron.

Perfect for any upcoming wreath workshops. They also dry beautifully, they look like cute little mini pinecones.

Our journey…..so far ✌️

Outback Yack Flower Farm was founded by Ben and Mel Quick in 2021, nestled in the rolling hills of Yackandandah in North East Victoria.

Originally envisioned as a retirement project, our dream of a commercial cut flower garden came to life earlier than planned, fast-tracked by the global pandemic.

Today, (in between our full time jobs) we cultivate over two acres of Australian native and Proteaceae species, with new plantings continually enriching our landscape. While Proteas were our starting point, we adore the incredible textures and diversity offered by Australian natives.

Sustainable farming is at the heart of everything we do. By embracing regenerative practices, we nurture healthier, stronger plants producing a superior product and ensuring the long-term viability of our farm for generations to come.
