Darach Mhor Darach mhor produces gourmet food products from produce grown and nurtured on our property in Yallourn North. We set to to breathe new life into the property.

"Darach Mhor" (Irish for :Great Oak") takes it's name from the wonderful old oak tree which stands sentinel over our garden in Kelso Rd., Yallourn North. Darach Mhor was originally the Yallourn north Egg Farm owned by the Peerless Family. When we arrived in 2010, there were no signs of the old egg farm, the sheds having been long since demolished. The resulting paddocks were home to a handful of s

heep and goats;the old people were gone and the house sat forlornly awaiting it's future fate, whatever that might be. A flock of white cockatoos had made their home in the old oak tree and loudly resented our appearance on the scene. Over a period of a year we renovated the old house and established a new espaliered orchard and covered vegetable garden. Existing citrus trees were incorporated into a new citrus orchard, and old fashioned perfumed standard roses in shades of red lined the pathway to the house. Our neighbours (children of the Peerless family) delighted in the addition of our flock of hens, whose cackling brought back pleasant memories of the old egg farm days. A later addition was two hives of bees, who feasted on the extensive lavendar plantings amongst other things, creating a delightful local honey. We gain a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction growing and producing fresh produce from our own efforts. we aim at being as sustainable as possible with the space available to us and we delight in sharing the fruits of our labours with others.

Customers who generally purchase sourdough bread and other products from us at the markets we generally attend,can still order by calling Roger direct on 0422 561 775. We are still delivering to South Gippsland, East Gippsland and Central Gippsland 3 times a week and are in the process of setting up a website for bread orders. We look forward to hearing from you

We are looking for a delivery driver for delivery of sourdough bread in Gippsland with a van provided. Initially this would be casual/relief, but more permanent work may be available to the right person. We would prefer a mature, local Yallourn North person, possibly retired or semi retired. Tinamba Food and Wine Festival is coming around quickly. We will be there again this year and I am really looking forward to it. Last year was a fabulous event and this year should be just as good. I have been busy stocking up so that no one misses out this year. Write it in your calendars for 23rd April...don't miss it, it's a great day out!!!!

Darach Mhor is back at markets as of 5th March. See you at Traralgon VRI Market from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm on Saturday. I have been very busy making jams, relishes and chutneys as well as pickles. Come and see me! in the next few weeks I will also have some new pickles to sample.

I am very busy at the moment picking fruit and vegetables and making lots of jams, relishes and pickles, so I will not be attending any markets until the end of January/ early February. If there is anything you need before then, please message or ring me and I will arrange to get it to you. Don't forget you can get Darach Mhor produce now at Food Co on Franklin in Traralgon.
For those of you who have been waiting patiently for raspberry jam and blackcurrant jam, the raspberry is in stock and the blackcurrant is on the stove RIGHT NOW!!!

A fox has gone on a killing frenzy in my hen house. All but two of my beautiful girls have been murdered, not for food but just for fun.
Darach Mhor will not have eggs in the foreseeable future as we must now restock our hens and fortify the pen further. I will be taking a break from hens for a little while. I am so sad....such a senseless waste. RIP little lovlies
