Yesterday we had our first official visitors to Risdon Stud since settlement. Pedro and Maeve from IGT came to do an OPU in preparation for an embryo implant in October. All the girls performed extremely well, given that we are now drought declared and their condition is down slightly. While the yard set up isn’t quite where we need it to be, we managed for the day. The new crush shelter and laboratory will come in the new year. Now to wait and see what embryos we get…..

It’s official, Smithy’s Droughtmasters has a new home. Risdon Stud, Warwick. A property with a history of breeding quality tropical cattle since the 1950’s when the then owners, King Ranch imported the first Santa Gertrudis cattle into Australia, and used Risdon as their home base for their on property sale. Stud droughtmasters were then run during the 70’s and 80’s before a commercial droughtmaster operation ran until current. Our operation will now be based on the one property for our stud and commercial herds. Stay tuned for more updates.

Yesterday we received the most amazing gift of a fully trained kelpie. Our local stock agent came to assess our weaner steers 2 years ago and suggested we would benefit from a dog to help muster. Fast forward to yesterday when he arrived with our dog. Blake Doro, you are an absolute gentleman, and we really appreciate the new worker. Welcome to Smithy’s, Honey.
