Get ready for a berry adventure with our Boysenberries! These juicy gems, in shades from bright red to deep, almost-black, have a dusted finish and an aroma that’s pure delight. Fresh off the vine, they’re delicious right out of hand—or whip them into pies and jams for an extra treat. This is one of the subtropics’ best trailing berries, but beware: they’ve got a few thorns to keep things interesting!

Today on the farm, I spotted a turtle shuffling along the path toward the dam, looking unusually determined. I crouched down and called out, “Hey, buddy! Where’re you off to in such a rush?”

The turtle paused, giving me a slow blink, then picked up its pace—a speed that for a turtle was practically a sprint. Amused, I stepped forward to maybe give it a lift, but the little guy sped up even more, as if to say, “No help needed, thanks!”

So I stood back, watching this determined turtle hustle, each slow, purposeful step defying his reputation. Finally, he reached the dam and slipped into the water with a satisfied plop, leaving me chuckling at how I’d been “outpaced” by a turtle on a mission.

One of my hives decided to throw a little bee party today and swarmed just 2 meters away, settling on a low-hanging branch of my nashi pear tree. The swarm was so heavy, it actually snapped the branch, which was hanging by a thread!

With a bit of finesse, I carefully cut the branch and gave it a good shake, sending the bees tumbling right into a nucleus hive. As soon as the lid was on, it was like watching a royal procession—every bee marched straight into the hive, clearly following their queen. Nature’s choreography never fails to impress!
