CHANGE OF HIGHRENT ANGUS SALE DATE
Just a reminder that our sale date this year has changed. The sale is on Wednesday 2nd September, with Open Days on Friday 28th August and the morning of the sale. As usual the sale will be on Auctions Plus only, with no bidding on site, so we encourage everyone to come to one of the inspection days. We have made this change to allow the yearling bulls to grow a little more prior to the sale.
This year we will have a mix of two year old, eighteen month and yearling bulls on offer. Some of the sires used include Basin Jameson, Hart Network, Kingston and Stellar, with high marbling sires Tasmania, Tesla and our own T194 - Quarterback son represented.
Last week the bulls were scanned by Roger Evans for EMA, IMF and Fats and had their foot scores assessed by Roger. This data has been sent to the Angus Society, so updated EBVs will be available for the catalogue. We consider this a very important part of our sale preparation. Not only does it provide increased accuracy to the EBVs, but is also an independent assessment process.
Just a note to remind bull buyers to look at the accuracy of the EBVs presented in catalogues when considering their purchases this year. This will reflect how much information has been put towards the numbers presented for the bulls and therefore how reliable they might be.
Last year it was noted that one Angus producer catalogued and sold bulls as stud animals, without them being registered or sire verified. Mid parent estimates were present as EBVs which could be very misleading as can be seen in the table below.
These 2 ET sons have the same mid parent averages, but as you can see are different in their attributes once proper EBVs are generated. Note the BW differences.
We aim to have our catalogue out by early August. If you are not on our mailing list and would like a physical copy please contact us. We have decided this year to provide free transport within 300 km for this year’s sale, so hope this makes it easier for you.
Also please let us know if there have been any issues with any of our bulls. As calving begins we hope all goes well, but have full confidence our animals will perform as expected.
