It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick James Mayers, B.C.H., J.P., on 8 April 2026, at the age of 84.

A titan of the Caribbean rum industry and our esteemed Chairman Emeritus, Mr. Mayers’ legacy spans over six decades of dedicated service. From his early days at the West India Rum Refinery and Goddard Enterprises Ltd., to his transformative leadership as Chairman of WIRSPA for three terms, his vision was instrumental in securing fair market access for Caribbean rum on the global stage.

Beyond his professional acuity, Patrick was a recipient of the Barbados Centennial Honour, recognised for his "sterling contribution" to national and community life. His influence on trade agreements like the Cotonou and Canada/CARICOM agreements remains a testament to his commitment to the region.

We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Ann, his family, friends and the many colleagues whose lives he touched. In the history of Authentic Caribbean Rum, the name of Patrick J. Mayers stands as a cornerstone of the industry.
