Oscar fish (Astronotus ocellatus) are definitely among the most intelligent freshwater fish, but whether they are the #1 most intelligent depends on how intelligence is defined — and compared to other smart species.

🧠🐟 Why Oscars Are Considered Highly Intelligent:
1. They recognize their owners
– Oscars can learn to associate specific people with feeding and will often beg or follow them across the tank.
2. They show complex behavior
– Including problem-solving, territorial defense, and individual personalities (some are shy, others bold or even “moody”).
3. They can be hand-fed and trained
– Some can be taught to jump, take food from fingers, or even perform tricks with consistent training.
4. They respond to stimuli
