Here’s an idea of what to do with your 12-year-old nephew on holiday in Magog, or anywhere else, really… organize a hot dog competition.

I suggested we try three different places over three days and establish some proper judging criteria: condiment ratio, bread consistency and wiener taste. Fries got their own score too, of course.

The fun part was watching how seriously he took it. He really weighed his options and explained his scores, exactly what I’d hoped for when I suggested it. His opinion mattered just as much as mine.

And before anyone worries about our diet: one hot dog each and a mini portion of fries to share, once a day. Plus hours swimming in the lake and walking everywhere.

Best steamé: Cantine Chez Paul

A steamé is a Quebec classic: the bun and wiener are steamed instead of toasted, giving you that characteristic soft, warm bun.

My nephew loved the condiment ratio, bread consistency and taste. He even wanted to award an extra point for the nice, clean interior, which I found adorable. Bonus: it’s right downtown with a lovely terrace for people-watching.

Best fries: Cantine Charles Luncheonette

My dad’s favourite. He goes every Friday after golf, and these were definitely our winning fries. Fried twice in beef fat, they’re much closer to Belgian fries: crispy outside, soft inside and not oily.

My dad swears by their toasted hot dogs and I loved the homemade coleslaw. My nephew, who takes his with ketchup and mayo, thought there was too much ketchup and that it overpowered the wiener. The boy takes his judging seriously.

And Magog? Beautiful and quaint, surrounded by lake, mountains and nature. About 1½ hours south of Montreal and close to the U.S. border, it’s a pretty wonderful place to spend a few summer days, hot dog competition included.

Confession time…

Sometimes, when I tell people I’m going home after work… I’m actually making a little stop CASCO first.

Their Spicy Double Cheeseburger is honestly one of my favourite burgers in Brussels.

From the outside, CASCO looks more like a bar where you’d grab a drink with friends. But don’t let that fool you. Their burgers are seriously good, and the fries deserve a mention too: fresh-cut, super crispy and absolutely delicious.

If you haven’t tried it yet, put it on your list. The Spicy Double Cheeseburger gets my vote every single time.

🇬🇷 The laid-back, simple flavours of a neighbourhood café in Athens can be found right at the foot of the Parc Duden.

Located just a short walk from Forest National, with the Royal Union Saint-Gilloise stadium directly across the street, Pita Corner has been serving authentic Greek food since 2023. Owned by Nikos and Nikki, this neighbourhood bar is all about simple Greek classics, done right.

I’ve been eating here for years, and it’s about time I finally gave them the spotlight they deserve.

Their gyros pita (€8) is packed with flavour, while the gyros plate (€16) comes with tender gyros, a fresh Greek salad, homemade tzatziki, warm bread and a generous portion.

Whether you’re stopping by for a drink or a meal, you’re always welcome.

Kitchen open non-stop
Wednesday to Sunday • 12:00–22:00

⚽ Open for every Royal Union Saint-Gilloise home match.

Can’t make it to the restaurant? You’ll also find their Greek Pita food truck every Sunday at the Watermael-Boitsfort market and every Thursday at Boeremet (Abattoir d’Anderlecht).

A simple neighbourhood address that’s well worth discovering.

Thank you, Nikos and Nikki. ❤️🇬🇷

As many of you already know, I’m a die-hard fan of Indian food. The kind that’s bold, spicy, aromatic and leaves you thinking about it the next day. Finding places in Brussels that truly hit those notes isn’t always easy, but Karma Kitchen never disappoints.

Created by Pavan from Mission Masala, the restaurant blends Indian home cooking with the comforting nostalgia of British curry houses. Rich curries, colourful plates made for sharing, smoky spices, amazing cocktails and one of the nicest terraces around Sainte-Catherine.

We went for date night yesterday and honestly, it reminded me exactly why I love this place so much ❤️
