Two Rock Wine Company There has never been a better time to be a wine lover. Prior to that he was a barrister and attorney practicing in Bermuda.

Not only has the range of available wines improved dramatically but producers are focussing more on creating elegant, balanced wines, made for drinking rather than effect. Our job, or more properly our passion, is to source and sell wines that are a pleasure to drink and which tell a story. We often visit wineries directly, trying better to understand how the wines are made and where they come fro

m. Our portfolio is made up of mainly small, family producers, many of whom practice organic and biodynamic viticulture. Who We Are:

John Sharpe founded and managed New World Wines, an importer and distributor of fine wine based in Bermuda, from 1997 – 2013. Mat Macdonald has studied Viticulture and Oenology at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand and has worked at both Neudorf in Nelson and Larkmead in Napa Valley.

Our wine of the week is the Fefiñanes Albariño 2024 from . In Cambados, a seventeenth-century palace houses a winery that's been making this wine since 1928—the first to bottle and label Albariño by name.

The vines are planted on decomposed granite a short walk from the Atlantic. Six months in stainless steel, no oak. Just the fruit and the terroir.

Sea air, citrus blossoms, lime zest, white peach. A saline finish that tastes exactly like where it comes from. Crisp. Mineral. Alive. Serve it cold with wahoo off the grill or ceviche.

Eight centuries. That's how long has been making wine at Commanderie de Peyrassol—since the Knights Templar planted the first vines in 1204. This week's wine is their pale Provence rosé, a Château bottling from the oldest vineyard sites that shows exactly why the estate is still going strong.

Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Tibouren, Vermentino. Picked at night, aged on the lees, certified organic since 2022. The wine tastes like Provence tastes—white peach, wild strawberry, orange zest, the garrigue lifting through with fennel and lavender. This Saturday we're doing one estate three ways. Peyrassol sits in the hills of the Var, founded by the Knights Templar in 1204 and farmed under the same name ever since. opens their range for us—from the everyday bottle to the one they make only in the best years.

Start with Les Commandeurs 2025, pale and bright, citrus and red berry made for a warm afternoon. Move to the Château 2025 off the oldest vines, white peach and wild strawberry with that savoury fennel and lavender lift. Finish with Les Clos 2024, their top rosé from a single walled plot near the Templar buildings, led by the old Provençal grape Tibouren and aged in stoneware jars. Pale, textured, long. Three tiers, one afternoon. Come taste them side by side.

Château Camensac 2005, in magnum. A Haut-Médoc from one of Bordeaux's great vintages, now comfortably mature. Dark plum, blackcurrant, and cedar on the nose, with cigar box, dried herbs, and the gravelly earth that marks the Haut-Médoc. The palate is smooth and composed: tannins softened over nearly two decades, a core of dark fruit that stays fresh, a long savoury finish that holds.

In magnum the wine ages more slowly, so this bottle is more complete than the standard format, with years still ahead of it. The one for a dinner that runs late and something off the grill.

This week’s wine is Commanderie de s pale Provence rosé, and it’s a real pleasure to work with a producer that traces back to 1204 when the Knights Templar founded the estate. Philippe Austruy has been at the helm since 2001, and what he’s doing with heritage vineyard sites is quietly exceptional.

The Château bottling pulls from the oldest vines on the property—a blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Tibouren and Vermentino—picked at night and aged on the lees. It’s certified organic since 2022, and the result is energetic and beautifully balanced: white peach, wild strawberry, orange zest, with fennel and lavender from the surrounding garrigue. One for grilled fish and long evenings.

If Rioja has a producer that does everything right without overstating it, it's Muga.

Based in Haro since 1932, the family run their own cooperage, do their own farming, and make wines that are elegant where Rioja can be heavy. No outside consultants. No shortcuts.
