Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all celebrating.

Still very much grieving here. Now with increasing anger mixed in to balance things out slightly. Our first Hari Raya open house without Mum was extremely different from previous ones, an understatement really. So thought I'd see how at least one other was going, just to compare. Even though Hari Raya was over for me by the third day or so.

Lots of people, lots of celebrating, and lots of food and drink at this open house. So I now have the chance to post about, share about a drink new to me. It's been a while.

Tried the matcha latte from .bn who had set up a station at the open house. Polite young staff offering a decent selection of coffee, tea, and chocolate drinks. I opted for the matcha latte which I found to be pleasantly creamy and matcha rich as well as being refreshingly icy cold.

I'll be popping in and out of here to share what I can, catch up with some friends, and to see who's still around with/for me. Sending out warm wishes to those staying linked 💛

Halloween-themed doughnuts from

These Halloween flavours include pumpkin, vanilla, chocolate, Oreo in various guises, blueberry. My favourite is the matcha iced one (Frankenstein), love the sweet earthiness of that icing on that so soft and airy dough. The Oreo with cream cheese icing (the spider web) has a good flavour combo and a nice mouth and finger feel too. Didn't try all of them so if the others all taste as good as they look too this is certainly a box of ( for those who use this spelling).

By the way a few eyeballs might be missing from the pic. Wasn't fast enough with my phone before some of the kds swiped them.

Otto Takeaway does the softest springiest doughnuts that I know of in Brunei, BIG fan here. Anyone else on doughnuts? Just can't do the crumbly cakey type.

Angus beef tomahawk steak at . Satisfyingly BIG piece of well-cooked beef with chimichurri, black pepper, and mushroom sauce together with a medley of grilled vegetables and french fries. Very tasty, very filling, and very good price (September promo making it about half the price you would pay at most other places) so this was the venue I chose for this year.

made a delicious peanut butter sponge cake (the pink one). Light peanut butter buttercream slathered between layers of soft sponge. .bn made an exquisite gianduja cake full of hazelnut flavour, salted caramel buttercream, chocolate cake and rich chocolate ganache. Both extremely enjoyed by all of us. My compliments to all the chefs and bakers involved and gratitude for the usual wonderful service from the Anjung Saujana staff.

This was my birthday dinner earlier this month. My first birthday since losing Mum so it was a very bittersweet day, missing Mum while the rest of the family made the dinner as celebratory as possible. Sure you know what my birthday wish this year was.

Comfort food of roti kosong set at Always enjoy the crisp-edged roti with the slight chew as you go towards the centre. Along with the sides of dalca (chickpea), corned beef mix, sardine mix, and sweet sour mixed veggie pickle that make up the set meal. With additional thick chicken curry with a sauce that just calls out to be dipped into over and over again.

This was my first time eating out since my Mum passed recently. It took a lot to go out and have food that she herself enjoyed on many occasions as I'm worried about getting upset in public but I know I can't hide away for long.

Not going to go into any details here. Those who know me personally know how broken up I am about Mum no longer being with us. And how difficult it is for me to be quite myself for now. But wanted to explain my long absence from Instagram to those who care about me on some level but don't know what's going on. Basically I stayed with and looked after Mum when she was hospitalised for a long time. So I'm really really feeling her absence.

I'm trying to heal. I need time. I've lost many followers for not posting recently and will probably lose many more as I continue to focus on family matters for now. But in these circumstances I'm not worried about IG numbers. Just reconnecting with some of you.

I miss my Mum 💔 Al-Fatihah.

Recently tried one of the latest eateries to open in Brunei.
bsb is the Brunei branch of the original based in Miri, Sarawak, East Malaysia. Was told it's popular (trendy?) in Miri and seems popular or at least a curiosity for Bruneians too as there were about 20+ people waiting in line with us before the doors were opened.

The house specialty is nasi lemak (coconut rice with sides) as the restaurant name implies. Several versions of nasi lemak on the menu so of course I wanted to try one but was told that even first thing in the morning they had run out of some sides.

So I opted for the Singapore laksa instead that looked quite tempting on the menu and a hot teh tarik. Verdict? Decent portion but just okay tasting to me. My tea was lukewarm.

Well at least I've braved the crowds to try the place once. Friendly warning: If walking-in run fast to a table or you won't get a seat. Best to reserve a table in advance to ensure seating.

Anyone know if the nasi lemak is worth going back for? Looks good and hopefully if there's a second visit can get the complete set.

* NB - Struggling slightly to keep up with Instagram lately as the past weeks have been very busy with moving and COVID and personal struggles. Not a great combo. Generally stressed even more than ever. Hence this (very) .

Forced to try a new seafood place in Miri as our usual go-to eatery was closed for the day recently.

The hotel staff recommended a nearby restaurant with tanks of live sea creatures where we had dinner.

Ordered white rice, clam soup (bland even with all the ginger in it), stir-fried cockles (cockles overcooked until rubbery), steamed whole fish in ginger soy sauce (overcooked fish and weak tasting sauce).

Anybody know of a good seafood place in Miri?

First visit review 🍗🍚

Checked out Kedai Nasi Ayam (the Chicken Rice Shop) in Kiulap, in front of Hokko.

Had to order one of the signature dishes, the steamed version of the chicken rice. Generous amount of rice, well cooked yet still juicy steamed chicken in a tasty sauce and some sliced cucumber. Spooned over lots of the fresh sweet sour chilli vinegar to amp up the flavour.

Had to also share a closer-up view of the chicken just to show how good it was. An iced longan drink to help wash the yums down.

Very popular place as proved by the constant flow of people coming in. Some friendly staff who were quick to attend to us despite the very many other diners.

Birthday busy & house affairs!

Been a little MIA due to birthday celebrations, trying to do up a previously much-loved house, and health hits.

Despite everything I've been through and still going through I am very grateful for yet another birthday, another year with family & friends ❤️ Thank you to everybody who has wished me well 🙏🏼

And a big thank you to for this very impressive cake or actually 3 whole beautiful and delicious cakes. Rich chocolate ganache cake(s) for this chocolate lover with lots of macarons and slices of kek batik and chocolates among the other edible decorations.

A wonderful sweet ending to this year's birthday dinner. Which I'll share about soon. Promise! ☺️
