Brazil + Vietnam Market Intelligence for European Buyers
BRAZSPICE PEPPER MARKET DASHBOARD
-- Vietnam Prices: Stable to firm; completed harvest and controlled farmer selling continue supporting the market.
-- Brazil Prices: Stable; new-crop availability is improving, while premium and EU-compliant lots remain selective.
-- Freight: Manageable but still volatile; confirm prompt shipment space and total landed costs.
-- EU Compliance & MRL: Active; residue control, traceability and microbiological requirements remain key purchasing factors.
-- Weather Risk: Increasing as El Niño develops, adding uncertainty for future production.
-- Pink Pepper Brazil: New-crop processing continues; premium Grade G1 availability remains limited.
-- Supply Availability: Improving for conventional Brazilian pepper; controlled in Vietnam and tighter for sterilized, organic and EU-specification programs.
-- Market Bias: Stable → Firm
-- Current Fundamentals: Supported by disciplined selling, resilient demand, compliance costs and weather uncertainty.
-- Buyer Focus This Week: Consider gradual Q3–Q4 forward coverage while the market remains relatively stable.
-- Procurement Signal: Gradual Forward Buying
The Big Picture: Consolidation, Not Correction
This week in the pepper market, what really mattered was not a major price movement—but the continued strength beneath the surface.
The global market is consolidating after earlier volatility. Fresh pepper from Brazil and Indonesia is improving immediate availability, but Vietnam’s completed harvest, controlled farmer selling and continued export demand are preventing a broader correction.
Vietnam exported approximately 23,103 ton of pepper in June, valued at USD 151.3 million. Monthly shipments slowed, but European demand remained stable and first-half exports continued showing strong year-on-year growth.
Vietnam: Domestic prices are holding around VND 134,000–136,000/kg. Standard export references remain broadly around USD 6,100–6,200/MT for 500–550 g/l black pepper, while processed and EU-compliant programs trade at higher levels.
Brazil: ASTA 570 remains internationally competitive at approximately USD 5,900/MT on general market references. New-crop arrivals are improving availability, but premium cleaned and EU-compliant lots remain selective.
A trend we’re watching closely: El Niño has developed and is expected to strengthen later in 2026. This does not create an immediate pepper shortage, but it increases uncertainty for future production cycles and supports cautious forward-planning.
Where we see opportunity right now: European buyers can use the current period of relative stability to secure selective Q3–Q4 coverage, particularly for traceable, residue-controlled and sterilized programs
What to watch next week: Brazilian harvest flows, Vietnamese farmer selling, EU demand, freight availability and weather developments.
