You will meet your Harvest Caye Spice Farm and Tropical Botanical Garden Excursion guide just outside your Placencia tender pier. You'll ride in comfortable, air-conditioned transportation for a scenic 45 ride to the tropical paradise located in Southern Belize, the Spice Farm and Botanical Gardens. Established in 1990 by a visiting couple from India, the Spice Farm at the Golden Stream Plantation was opened for public visits in 2011. The couple noticed the strong similarities in local climate and agricultural surroundings of their native land and started the project. Once you've arrived, you'll have a guided visit of the property. Your guide will lead you through the grounds for a one of a kind sensory experience. The walk is approximately 1 mile with stops along the way to try exotic fruits and take in the smells of the ethnic spices. There is a trolley train that takes guests around the property, making stops at the more interesting sites - the trolley is on a first come, first serve basis. You'll have the opportunity to savor the scents of Cardamon, Clove, and Nutmeg. You'll also have the chance to see trees such as Cashew, Rambutan, Sapote, Aji, Bilimbi, Carambola, and Nellipuli. Check out the jackfruits and mangos from India and Cambodia as well. There are also a wide variety of flowering plants such as Hibiscus, Jatropha, Jasmine, Ixora, and Heliconia. Be sure to have your camera ready! The farm is also one of the largest black pepper and vanilla farms in the country and, along with that, it is adorned with teak, mahogany, rosewood, and sandalwood trees. Guests will receive a bottle of water during their visit at the Spice Farm. Once your time comes to an end you'll have time to purchase some local Belizian food as well as Indian food at the small restaurant on the property. Spices and handcrafts are also available for purchase. Guests will have approximately 2.5 hours at the Spice Farm property. When this great day comes to an end, your transportation will take you back to the Placencia dock for the short shuttle boat ride back over to Harvest Caye Island and your cruise ship.
