We are incredibly proud to announce that the Belize Women’s Seaweed Farmers Association (BWSFA) has won the Gender & Social Inclusion Award at the UK-Belize Climate & Nature Legacy Awards 2026!

This award celebrates our women-led initiative that is transforming Belize’s Blue Economy—from certifying eight women as boat captains (a first in Belize!) to boosting dried seaweed
revenue by 200% .

None of this would be possible without the support of the British High Commission, Belmopan and the UK’s Climate & Nature Diplomacy Fund. Together, we are proving that when women
lead, both nature and communities thrive.

We are seeking a qualified consultant to conduct the End-of-Project Evaluation for the Belize Fund–funded project: “Empowering Belize’s Seaweed Mariculture: Strengthening Institutional Capacity of BWSFA for Sustainable Growth.”

This consultancy will assess project results, lessons learned, and overall impact to guide the continued development of Belize’s seaweed industry.

Interested applicants should submit: A cover letter, CV(s) and supporting documentation, a proposal detailing methodology, work schedule, and expected financial compensation.

We were honored to host GEF SGP Belize and GEF SGP Haiti at our office for an engaging exchange on the successes and challenges of Belize’s growing seaweed industry.

During the visit, we shared valuable insights with Jean Fanfan Jourdain and Leonel Requena, GEF Small Grants National Coordinators for Haiti and Belize, highlighting our collective efforts to strengthen community-based marine enterprises.

We are deeply appreciative of the time taken to connect with us and our work — and we look forward to building stronger Caribbean collaboration as we continue to grow the seaweed movement beyond Belize.
