Calving ease and performance in the same bull. That’s the goal, and it’s good to hear it’s working.

Ken and Jamie Rea of Bar 3R Limousin in Marengo, Saskatchewan, picked up Mack for his calving ease, and his first calf crop has them excited. Here’s what they had to say:

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! With so many new faces around here lately, it felt like a good time to reintroduce ourselves.

We’re Darren and Chase High, a father-son team raising purebred Limousin & Angus cattle, alongside a commercial herd, just northeast of Airdrie, Alberta. Our family has been in the Limousin breed since 1974. Darren’s dad was one of the early guys to try the European breeds, and after testing about half a dozen, Limousin was the one that stuck.

Our focus has always been the commercial cattleman. Performance and calving ease don’t always go hand in hand, but that’s exactly what we breed for. We want animals that calve easy, grow and perform, get out and move, and last, with a quiet disposition you can live with every day. One of our favourite things to hear is that you’ve finally got too many daughters out of one of our bulls.

A few years back we added some Angus to the mix, and our goal is to hold them to the same standard. You’ll find both in our annual online bull sale every March on DLMS Farmgate.

Three generations in, we’re still at it together. Thanks for following along, and don’t be shy. We’re always happy to talk cattle.

We may have missed getting this girl to the backdrop for a photo, but a cell phone pic didn't quite do her justice. So here's a little solo post on our Angus entry from Olds.

You may follow our page for our Limousin, but our goal is to build an Angus herd that complements them in type and kind. High's Jennifer 415P (SCHIEFELBEIN Gable 311 x LFE BA Jennifer 29J) does just that. Tanky, but still broody, she's already showing that "momma cow" look we love. We're pretty proud of this one and can't wait to see her develop.
