Evie felt the need to to pop in and say “Morning”, and to let you know it’s friggin cold out there and she was not impressed with the patchy frost around the farm and the humans have had to put the wood stove on to warm these big ears up!

We have pulled plastic over hoop tunnels, prepped beds and got lots of transplants and direct seeding into the field this week! 🫜🌱

As we look at the temperatures for the next few days it has us reaching for our thermals and wondering 🤔 if we will be putting the wood stove back on! 🙄 🥶

Tomorrow is market day and we are busy harvesting and prepping for the Annapolis Royal Farmers and Traders Market

⏰ Market runs from 9am-1pm. We are more than happy to start serving at around 8.20am, please be aware some vendors may be still setting up at this time.

📍 We are located on Church street opposite the Masons hall, in between our market pals Lazy Bear Brewing and Den's Fudge

🫜 We will have lots of seasonal deliciousness so head out and support local this weekend and every weekend! 🙏💚🌱

Thermals, bikinis to patchy frosts and then a cooler room that decides to crap out as you get ready for market!

I think this is what they call “living the dream” 🙄

More crops have headed into the field this week and I would love to say the greenhouse seeding area is looking a little empty but as quick as it heads out we seem to have the ability to fill it even quicker with new seedings as we start to focus on fall crops!

Our first big planting of cover crop is looking gorgeous against the spring colours of the land, the market has moved outdoors which seems to make every one a little brighter and seasonal deliciousness is starting to leave the farm and head to your tables and the puppy has turned six months old!

Now that the outdoor season of the has started you will find us on Church Street every Saturday ready to serve from around 8.20am (just make sure I have had a good amount of coffee and breakfast)

So nice to see the sun ☀️ shining after all the lovely rain 🌧️ and not so lovely wind 💨!!
We did manage to get some transplants in but had to cover them all to protect them as much as possible from the wind gusts and we got a lovely big section of multi species cover crop in just in time for the next round of rain.

Tomorrow is the last indoor Annapolis Royal Farmers and Traders Market at the St.Lukes Parish Church hall. Next weekend we will be heading outside and be back in our summer spot on church street.

We will be heading to market tomorrow with lots of seasonal deliciousness.

A growing season is a bit like a steam engine, slow to start and then once it picks up pace it’s full steam ahead well this year it’s just been a little slower to get to the full steam ahead, but yesterday’s Nor’easter bringing lots of rain into heavy wet snow pretty much summed up this years spring so far!

But do we really want each season to be like the last?!

A snowy winter and wetter and cooler spring this year has allowed our water table to replenish, our irrigation pond to reach near capacity, it’s allowed us to see how many trees (planted by CARP) we have sadly lost from last years drought and enjoy a little more time with Evie.
We have maintained our schedule of seeding the crops that need to be transplanted and kept up with our potting up schedule, but direct seeding and getting transplants out has required a little bit of jigging this year with those cooler temperatures. We have played around with quicker turn around in the greenhouse and rather than mowing and covering the greens with tarps, we mowed covered with compost and got the first round of pole beans straight in.

Some of your favourite spring crops may be a little later this year but rest assured seasonal deliciousness is slowly making its way back to the market stand.

Just a side note on the last picture we also discovered it takes a really long time to tick check Evie’s ears!!!!
