Gillcrest Farm

Gillcrest Farm Small scale farm, featuring seasonal plants, berries Highland cattle pork and piglets. I made the move from BC to NS in November 2019.

The farm is a work in progress figuring out what to focus on and what there is a demand for. I work with a few suppliers and farms across the country to source rarer or harder to find plants at reasonable prices. I have always liked to do things a little different and produce things that may not be the "normal". My cattle are miniature crosses so smaller than what you would normally see which mean

s for anyone purchasing beef the cost will be lower when buying a side or quarter while maintaining a quality product. The garden aspect has been more of a challenge for various reasons but I now have a focus for that. I will be turning a 1 acre field into garlic, strawberries and 4 colours of raspberries, mainly, with a few other fun things for something different. I hope to have a greenhouse but that wont happen for awhile. If you have something unusual that you cant find or cant grow...let me know and I will either try to get it in or attempt to grow it...cant promise I will but I can try :) Traci

We now have a full loft and more inside space for the cows, sheep and pigs for winter :) it will now be possible to have up to 6 calving pens ..and storage for 500-600 square bales maybe more. Thank you to Randy Scott Lee for the lumber to make this possible. Still have to add a couple lights and another window .

We got most of the cows moved back home since I expect their field to be under water by tomorrow and it may last a few days with the forecast. With all the apples falling I don't think they will be too upset.

Pastures are actually staying ahead of the cows this year. So thankful for the rain and not the drought like last year. Fingers crossed the weather stays nice and this side will get a good amount of growth before fall.

All the heifers for 2026 are now sold. There will not be any pure highlands next year but we are expecting some possible polled crosses that will look like Pearl.
A few highlands are bred to a high % bull with a bit of brown Swiss for those looking more for milk production.

We have a full freezer of mixed meats for pet food . This is all from our loop pickups. You must sign a form that Kristen Warnell has. All boxes will be mixed. They could have beef, chicken, turkey, pork, sausages, salmon, deli meats etc.
I cook mine in a pressure cooker and the dogs love it.

The welcome party. They are learning about grain time. Donut doesn't care, he is laying down in the back lol
