Love to show cows but don't do it much anymore due to cost. Have bred an All-Canadian but have also shown a cow that was last in her class at the Royal. Will never forget either day. Have used several red or red factor bulls
Bull, over the past 30 years, that has worked best: Champion. Always price every cow. Usually no preparation for the classifier except 10-12 hrs of milk. Married to Maria July 2014
Brothers: Jack-West River Holsteins
Craig-pilot Cathay Pacific
Sister: Janine Wilson-Wilsonburg Holsteins
Other farms within an 1.5 hrs drive:
Brookvilla, Trivee, Blitz, Expo, Chestico,
Cobequid, Twinroad, Lindenoord, Lindenright,
Belcher. Best eye for show cows before they are famous:
Jerome MacCarron( Celtic )

It’s always great to go on here and talk about multiple generations on Vg and Ex cows but sometimes it just doesn’t tell the whole story about a cow. IMO the best cow families can still make the big timers even out of the average family members.
Here’s 3 great examples:

Gleann Altitude Brule Vg. B: June 1, 2024.
She’s done nothing yet but has the flat, open rib with tremendous rump and mammary needed to get to the best shows for years. Her dam was an 80 point Warrior.

Gleann Alpha Beta, HM All American summer two year old 2025. Her dam was a 82 point Analyst.

Gleann DB Blossom Ex93-2E. She’s as complete an individual as I’ve ever had here. Very hard not to stare at this cow. Her dam was an 81 point Army that I really regret selling as a fresh two year old.

All 3 are from the same family have long pedigrees with really good cows throughout.

I reluctantly consigned Brule to the Weeksdale Sale on Friday along with 3 other really good pedigreed solid two year olds.

Two years ago I also consigned a group to this
“production sale”. One topped the sale and that fall was chosen Reserve All Canadian senior two yr old, Gleann Master Reserve Vg89.

The best ones always find the right people.

Calf found!

We have too many heifers due at the same time and too many in this big pasture across the road. Anyone that has ever worked here has searched for calves in the tall grass or in the deep woods. Not exactly the best system I guess.
Last year we searched for a full day and a half for one. She was laying in tall grass in another field. The next day she stood up as if to say “what’s wrong with you people? I’m right over here!”
Just like everyone else, the one morning you don’t check on the group after several days of doing so is the morning they pop out a calf.
We’ve never not found a calf here but there are definitely stories to tell. Even in plain sight of our house coyotes will try to get calves but thankfully the older dry cows get their mojo going and aggressively keep them away.
Today’s find, or finds I should say, are pretty special.
This one is a Dropbox x Quincey. Quincey is the 2nd dam of the $90000 Qualify cow that just sold in the Hodglynn Sale.
The other that I just took to the barn is either a Direct or Steele from Qualify’s Tattoo sister.

Sunday has been kind of relaxing till now but all’s well that ends well.

Congratulations to the Hodgins family on a very successful sale today. It meant a lot to me to see four cows born and raised here go though the ring. From top to bottom, all four will be great breeding cows for their new owners.

Two beautiful young cows in an old barn pictured a year apart. Both have the same 2nd dam. One sired by a legendary bull and the other by one that could be; lots are going back to Direct. Both are selling tomorrow.

Somebody needs to add numbers to these pedigrees and make bulls.

The hard part is already done.

It’s so important to have your best cows in the right hands. Congratulations to Sweetview for taking Rebel Alpha to the next level since that insanely hot day last August and to Hodglynn on selling the best group out there.

Rebels dam and 2nd dam are pregnant.
Rebels dam’s full sister was nominated All American in 2025 for Elmvue.
Rebels Brayden P sister was the best 2 year old we calved and then sold in the past six months.

This family is rock solid.

Gleann Slater Quincey Ex92-3E 1* pictured this morning after milking.

13 daughters by Unix, Subban, Tatoo, Kingdoc, Direct, A2P2, and Dropbox.

Quincey is a Walnutlawn Slater from Lexis Lauthority Quinn Ex91-4E 3*, a small calf we purchased way back at the Lexis dispersal.
Larrissa, Quincey’s 3rd dam is Lydia’s highest star brood cow daughter.

Two incredible granddaughters of Quincey sell at Hodglynn.
I was asked a few months ago for a consignment from this family. It was a great feeling to have been asked.

Our choice was Gleann Direct Quote. A beautiful summer two year old with huge potential to breed another great family member.

In today’s world of here today, gone tomorrow genetics, it’s pretty darn nice to have a proven cow family that’s been there in the past, definitely here right now, and will be in the future.

The absolute best time of year! Today’s photos.
It’s a little bit about why I love this farm and its history. For me, that’s what counts. Good cows that others may like keep me farming.

My job is to drive the silage truck. It’s an ‘87 International. If I put a picture of it up I’d be reported. Pretty much an oven in the summer. Gotta drive with all the windows open because of fumes and heat from the engine beside my feet. The AC is just fair if you drive fast. But just can’t kill those trucks.
I’m pretty darn lucky to have friends like Darren and Jordan that help out when they can. And lucky to have a group of great young people averaging about 17 that “get it”.
