There’s always a little sadness when the summer produce starts winding down... but one of our favourite things about growing in a four-season greenhouse is knowing the harvest isn’t over. It’s simply changing.
As the days get shorter and temperatures start dropping here in BC, we shift toward the crops that actually prefer the cooler months.
Things like kale, spinach, arugula, lettuce and Swiss chard. Carrots, radishes, beets, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. Plus herbs like parsley, chives and cilantro.
It might look different from the overflowing summer greenhouse, but there is something pretty incredible about walking outside in the middle of the colder months and still bringing fresh food back into the house.
That’s the beauty of year-round growing. Every season has something to offer, and with a little planning, the end of the outdoor garden doesn’t have to mean the end of your harvest.
If you could walk out to your greenhouse this winter and pick ONE thing fresh for dinner, what would you grow? Let us know in the comments below 👇
