A few weeks ago I signed our farm up for a program called LOOP. This program works with grocery stores to find farms in their area to take their left over produce, dairy, meats, bakery and any grocery items and feed it to their animals. Any food that cannot be sold for human consumption will get sent to the farms. This programs goal is to try and reduce as much food waste that would be going to landfills and instead feed it to our living garbage disposals (aka chickens, cows, goats, pigs, sheep, cats and dogs etc.) Our chickens will now come running over to the fence or door when they see me coming with a box of food. The cows will come to the gates to get their apples. The dogs and cats now know when I go into where we store the boxes, they come running and wait impatiently for their treat. Not much gets left behind and the animals love it.

We have been asked many times, what’s the best way to boil eggs that are farm fresh. Well I have finally found the best way to boil farm fresh eggs that were laid that day without loosing half of the whites! Boil a pot of water to a rolling boil. Add eggs gently. The water should still be boiling. Set a timer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes pull pot off the burner and let sit for 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes put eggs into a bowl of ice or ice water for 10 minutes. I put a bowl of water in freezer for 30 minutes. The eggs peeled so easy that the kids had no problem peeling them even after an hour later. So 10 minutes boiling water, 5 minutes sitting, 10 minutes in ice/ice water! 10-5-10

Orders accepted up to the processing date. For smaller chickens choose May 29 & August 31, for larger chickens choose June 11 & September 17.
