Today we experimented. We normally freeze our extra milk to feed the next year’s bottle kids, but this year we only had 1 bottle baby and never needed to unfreeze our extra milk. So we used our year old freezer milk to make ricotta, and it worked. It tastes just like the ricotta made from fresh milk. So I guess we have a lot of ricotta to make.

Our first fresheners are maturing nicely. Giffen’s Glade SP Magpie 58 DIM, Giffen’s Glade SH Wendy Darlin 56 DIM, Giffen’s Glade SH Gigi 61 DIM, and our 4F Wonderland GJ Gia Gia 46 DIM.

All our does are getting used to the milk stand as weaning approaches. We are showcasing Gia and her daughter Gigi. Gia has the calmest temperament and we are glad she has passed it onto her daughter. They are our favourites on the milk stand. (Wonderland GJ Gia Gia on her 4th freshening, 38 DIM, feeding twins and her daughter Giffen’s Glade SH Gigi on her first freshening, 54 DIM, feeding a single doeling)

We just did 10h holds on our first fresheners, and thought we’d compare them to their dams’ first freshenings. All are feeding twins except for Gigi who is raising a single doeling. With Magpie’s capacity improvement over her dam, her sire Shekinah CP Platinum Blonde is easily becoming our favourite buck.

Wonderland GJ Gia Gia had buck and doe twins today sired by Curl Creek SP Silver Lining. This is our first doeling from Silver Lining so she is retained. Our 2026 kidding season is now done for the year!

Giffen’s Glade SH Wendy Darlin had triplets yesterday, 2 doelings and 1 buckling. Sired by Shekinah CP Platinum Blonde. One doeling is much smaller than her siblings, so we will be bottle feeding her. One of these doelings will be available to keep our numbers lower.
