Marriage is all about sacrifice.

It’s about putting your partner’s needs ahead of your own. Supporting their interests. Being there for them when they need you most… even when every fibre of your being is screaming NO. 😂

And today, Melissa is demonstrating that commitment at the highest possible level.

She is dragging herself to her FIRST Iron Maiden concert. 🤘😬

Not because she loves Iron Maiden.

Not because this has been sitting on her bucket list.

But because Shane, in the unfortunate absence of having any friends willing to go with him, apparently requires a Personal Support Human for what will be his SEVENTH Iron Maiden concert. 😂🤘

Which brings us to an important farm-related public service announcement…

If you’re one of our regular visitors who knows that around 2:30 is usually a great time to catch Melissa feeding the animals, today is NOT your day. 😂

Melissa will be otherwise preoccupied, mentally preparing herself for several hours of heavy metal, Eddie, screaming guitars and questioning every life decision that led her to this moment.

So there will be no regularly scheduled 2:30 Melissa feeding appearance today. The animals will, of course, still be fed. 😂

Some people show their love with flowers.

Some with romantic dinners.

Melissa shows hers by abandoning her afternoon farm duties to accompany her friendless husband to Iron Maiden.

That, my friends, is marriage. ❤️😂🤘

We have beautiful Ontario nectarines coming in fresh from the Niagara region, and they’re everything late summer fruit should be… juicy, sweet and packed with flavour.

Here’s a fun fact: nectarines aren’t a cross between a peach and a plum. They’re actually a type of peach. A naturally occurring genetic difference gives nectarines their smooth skin instead of the familiar peach fuzz. Same family, just a little less fuzzy. 😉

They’re fantastic eaten straight out of your hand, sliced into salads, grilled, baked into desserts or chopped into a fresh summer salsa.

Niagara freestone peaches are officially in season, and if you’ve been waiting for them… now’s the time.

So what makes a freestone peach such a big deal? It’s all in the name… when you cut one open, the flesh pulls away easily from the pit. No wrestling, scraping or leaving half your peach stuck to the stone.

That makes freestones especially popular for canning, freezing, baking, preserves, pies and cobblers… although around here, eating one over the sink while the juice runs down your arm is a perfectly acceptable option too. 😂🍑🇨🇦

It has been brought to my attention that some people plan to retire and just… relax. 🤔

Instead of getting more farm animals, building things, fixing things, and starting 37 new projects before finishing the first 36.

And honestly, I’ve never related to anything less. 😂

We’re not sure what’s happening around here, but people are going absolutely crazy for cantaloupe right now! They’re flying out of the store on a daily basis, and we can barely keep up.

Dawn must’ve been onto something when she proclaimed these the best cantaloupes she’s ever tasted… because apparently, EVERYONE ELSE AGREES! 😂

Sweet, juicy, perfectly ripe and clearly worth coming back for. If you haven’t tried one yet, you might want to see what all the fuss is about. 🍈

Fair warning: you may become part of the cantaloupe craze too.

Every day when Diva gets turned out, she seems to make a beeline for the same area of the pasture. We have discovered why…

There’s a crab apple tree hiding back there, and Diva has been quietly cashing in on all the deadfall hitting the ground. 😂🍎

The best part? She seems to be the only one who knows it’s there. While everyone else is busy doing their thing, Diva heads straight to her secret little snack bar.
