📢 Community Update: Proposed Hydro Corridor Expansion
Over the past several weeks, Topline Feed has been approached by enough members of our community that we felt it was important to reach out and share what we know.
For those who may be aware—or hearing about this for the first time—Hydro One and the Ontario government have announced plans to increase electrical transmission capacity to Northern Ontario through the construction of two new hydro transmission corridors between Barrie and Sudbury.
Current information suggests that several potential routes are being evaluated, with route options expected to be released in the coming months and a preferred route anticipated in early 2027.
One of the potential options reportedly includes expanding the existing hydro corridor. If that route is selected, it could have significant impacts on local farms, homes, businesses, and the broader community. For our family, it would mean the loss of our farm, business, rescue, and everything we have built here over generations. We have also heard from other residents and landowners who share similar concerns.
While this project is still in its early stages, we want everyone to know that we are aware of the proposal and have begun engaging with local elected officials, Hydro One representatives, and community members to better understand the process and ensure our community's voice is heard.
If you, your family, your farm, or someone you know may be affected—or if you simply want to stay informed and support the community's efforts—please reach out to us.
We are compiling a contact list of interested residents, businesses, and landowners. Our hope is to share updates, provide accurate information, and organize future meetings so that our community can stay informed and speak with a united voice as this project moves forward.
Please share this post so we can reach as many potentially affected residents as possible.
