It’s Breeders’ Cup day in Elgin County.

This is the udder of our 2nd lactation entry - Mistyglen Giggles Lambda. She is a granddaughter of Kingsway Solomon Gorgeous.

Our other participants were 1st lactation - Velveeta Doc - a daughter of Millen Aleah Naughty Vixen.

And 3rd lactation plus - 5th lactation - Cozy Atmosphere.

Thursday was classification with Pat from Holstein Canada ...who had the required meeting with Jibberjabber.

We have some fun scores to talk about, but we are scheduled for a revisit, so there's still potential for something special.

One of our new Excellents was Mistyglen Skippy Crushabull, the dam of Maddie's 2025 season 4-H calf. This is one of those cows that you don't really notice, but is at the top of the production list, and goes about her business without fanfare. The best kind of cow. I'll work on getting some pictures of the high scorers over the next week.

The second heifer calf of 2026 has an EX97 cow on both sides of the pedigree!

This “Supreme” (Destination x Shakira) is from Maddie’s 2024 4-H project, Smygwatys Skick Jenga. Jenga’s 4th Dam is Loyalyn Goldwyn June.

We brought a few heifers over to the robot barn that are due in the next couple months. One was Maddie's 2024 4-H calf - Smygwatys Skick Jenga - whose 4th dam is Loyalyn Goldwyn June. She'll be 2 in December and is developing into an absolute unit. Smygwaty Holsteins

These girls were kind enough to let us play with their beautiful cows, so I was happy to give them a little session of their own! We enjoyed it so much that we decided to plan another one...I can't wait to get back to Mistyglen Holsteins for session #2!

The big Chief freshened this morning with a heifer calf by Bullseye! We purchased Millen Aleah Naughty Vixen (EX-3E) in 2019 at the Kingsway and Friends tag sale held at Hanalee. She was Maddie’s 4-H calf for the year and was Reserve Champion calf at the Western Ontario Junior Show.

She has calved 6 years in a row in September with heifer calves. Let’s see if this “Bullseye” heifer hits the mark!

Great results at the Elgin County 4-H Achievement Day today!

Maddie was Grand Champion Showman (and 3rd Senior Calf) with Mistyglen Skippity Master, and Kadie was 2nd place Senior Calf with Golden CC Miley.

Back in the day…

While going through the desk in the office, we came across these pictures from the past.

It's crazy to believe that this was nearly 27 years ago.

Back at this time, Tom was just 18 and I was 20 and while I was very interested in cattle genetics, we didn't consider ourselves a top farm. With a little encouragement and partnerships with more experienced breeders, we started taking some animals to the show to compete against other herds in the mid-90s.

This cow is Mistyglen Snowbird Stetson, and she was the Grand Champion and Best Udder of the 1998 Elgin County Holstein Show. Her dam (mother) Mistyglen Brokers Stretch was the Reserve Grand Champion the previous year.

You'll find them both on the sign in front of the farm house if you approach the on-farm store from the east.

27 years ago. Wow we're old.
