As fall is approaching quicker than we’d like, we have made some decisions with our sales moving forward.

After this year, we will no longer be selling buck kids. I tried it this year after a few years of growing them out instead and to be honest, it causes me more stress than I care to admit. Instead, we will go back to what we were doing and growing them out to yearlings, using them on some of the juniors in our herd in that time and making calls as to what will stay in our breeding program, what will leave as a herd sire for another program and what will head to auction. This also allows me the time to freshen any littermates and factor that into our decision.

While this may seem like overkill or dramatic to some, that’s our herd name leaving here on a buck that can make or break another herd in a short period of time. So for our sanity (mine mainly), this is the call we’ve decided to make. I realize this still doesn’t ensure that the buck that leaves here will do amazing things somewhere else, but the more we can do to try and only sell what we consider our best with testicles, I’m all for.
