🍅Too many tomatoes is a good problem to have right?!🍅
Plant the all star Merville Rocket if you want heavy yields of the tastiest, earliest, most productive variety we have ever grown.
This determinate heirloom is originally known as simply ‘Rocket’ but we started calling it Merville Rocket after long time steward Steve at Rock Bottom Farm in Merville BC passed the variety on to us.
Thank you Steve 🙌
The rest is history, tasty delicious history!

🩵The benefits of Borage 💙
First is its beauty, edible blue star shaped flowers attract pollinators aplenty. Honey bees particularly like borage blooms so plant it near crops that can use help with pollination like cucumbers, melons and squash. It also deters cabbage moth caterpillars 🐛 I’ll be planting some near my brassica crops. Borage also repels tomato horn worm. It self seeds readily and can be weeded out easily and used to improve soil and compost.
Borage is a powerful medicinal herb and the richest plant source of GLA, an omega-6 fatty acid derived from its seed oil benefitting skin, heart, respiratory, joint and hormonal health.
Plants are amazing!
Direct sow borage seed from spring into early summer. We consider it to be a continuous harvest seed crop, meaning when one flower falls off a stem, another opens and it’s the same with the seeds. We harvest the seed once every week or in two-three cuttings per season.
Lastly one of my favourite ways to enjoy the blue flowers is to freeze them in ice cubes for a bit of whimsy 🍹
What did I miss? Is borage something you grow or want to plant in 2026?

Looking back at my photos from last year, the stunning Mary’s Ukrainian Poppy seed crop got a lot of my attention. It was hard to walk by and not take a bunch of pics. The honey bees were mad for them, the blue green foliage and dark pink petals waving on the breeze were mesmerizing and finally the dry seed heads hold their own unique charm. These seeds can be direct sown in fall here on the west coast or in early spring.
With spring around the corner it feels like it’s time to get popping! 🌸🐝

Looking for Organic Canadian grown Seeds for you farm or garden?
Here's a list put together by Canadian Organic Growers

As always, do your due diligence when buying seed from Seed Companies , even if their name sounds local. Most seed, Organic included, is bought and sold on a world wide market. If in doubt, ask questions and expect transparency.

Check out our Organic Seed Directory - an extensive list of organic seed businesses.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the colourful roots of Rainbow Swiss Chard
🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🖤🩶🤍🤎
These baby chard are a result of shatter seed, seeds that fall off before or during the seed crop harvest. Shatter seed can be an indicator of the viability, vigour and in this case the colour 🌈 of the seed crop.
Winter has been mild here on the west coast and having tender greens to eat is an added bonus. Keeping the colourful roots on until use will prolong the storage life baby chard as well.
Are you still harvesting food in your garden and what are your favourite winter crops??

Thank you to all who came out last Friday to the great squash processing day! Donations are still coming in for the Indigenous Women's Sharing Society! Hundreds of pounds of nutritious organic squash was kept from the compost pile, going out to the community and soup kitchens in the Comox Valley. Seeds have been cleaned and are almost dried and ready for storage.
It was a cold wet day but hearts were warmed by good company, delicious squash soup and working together 🧡
Chi Miigwech to Natasha of Minwaadizi Organic Farm for sourcing this variety, farming along beside me, organizing the work party and for all you do for community in a good way🧡
