The piglets have arrived! A few days earlier than we thought but it has been fast and furious with 5 litters in 4 days. Fall piglets are always a robust group who get moving quickly, exploring their surroundings and getting into mischief. Let the games begin!

Gobble gobble! These golden evenings remind me that as much as I might cling to long summer days, it’s that time of year. Our turkeys have made a come back this year, after last years predator pressure and it is time to place your order for a fresh thanksgiving turkey or for a frozen Christmas turkey. DM me here or email the farm to place your order and reserve your bird. Don’t wait too long, they sell out quick!

August what?! How did it happen? Is anyone else feeling like summer was a complete time warp? We have been under continual shift here at the farm and as things ebb and flow communications have disappeared. But I’m here to let you all know we are still working our farm and producing food. We have our pasture raised pork and chicken available and are currently taking orders for fall lamb and pork orders. It’s also time to get your order in for a thanksgiving turkey! Place your order for a fresh pasture raised turkey that never disappoints. Check out our online store or message me here.

So much extra help in the garden these days! If only they were better at identifying weeds over intended plants I might be further ahead. We still have a few boys looking for homes. These lazy puppies are getting familiar with sheep and lambs and even spend some time checking out the pigs - but always from a safe distance. DM for more details if you are interested in a property or livestock guardian.

This little guy has had a tough go. Not a true runt at birth but became one when he lost the battle for a teat on his mama. Each piglet hones in on one ni**le and sticks to it for the entire time they nurse. For some reason, sometimes two piglets go for the same one and a fight ensues. Sometimes they sort it out and everybody is fine, this time, this guy lost and now all the spare ni**les have dried up. His face is scabby because he got chewed up in the battle. But he is healing slowly and had converted well to being a bottle baby. Please excuse the footage, if only I had more hands it would be better. The last image is the piglet version of being milk drunk!

Things that live on your counter when you’re a farmer. In this season the collection of needed items is a bit random. Here is my farmer vet kit and that is a repeater injection gun for treating animals with medicine or vaccines. It’s not as scary as it looks and is a quicker and safer way for me to treat animals when they are less than happy about getting a needle. This past weekend we had another litter of piglets and it did not go so well. The short version is that I have half a litter and a sick mama Sow who worked hard for those 5 survivors. She required antibiotics and pitocin to encourage her survival and even that is never a sure thing. Babies are cute and successful farrowing is a beautiful thing but the stress of sick animals is always a grey hair and wrinkle inducing kind of situation. I am hopeful that we are on the upswing, food and water are being consumed by mama and babies are happily nursing away. But I’m not going to put my kit away just yet.

Things a piglet must contend with😂. These sows are working hard to feed their many babies and with all this wet muck around it’s hard to keep the buffet top notch and tidy. These straw covered teats look a real mess to me but I never hear one complaint from the piglets.

Spring is in the air! I have taken an extended break through the winter but it’s time to crawl out of social media hibernation and start sharing all the events happening on the farm, because there are plenty! We have 5 litters of piglets and one surprise litter of guardian livestock puppies frolicking around enjoying the last few sunny days. A few more piglets to come and then we’ll start with lambs! Stay tuned, it’s going to get busy!
