Babies & beef at Merkaba Acres 🐄🌾

This has been our best grazing year yet. After the drought of 2025, the pasture bounced back beautifully, and we believe five years of rotational grazing is a big part of why. The cattle are thriving, and so is the soil.

We welcomed 11 calves this season, 7 bulls and 4 heifers, all born right out on pasture. Finding a new calf in the grass with mama standing protectively over it never gets old.

And the best news of all: our Kimi became a grandmother! 💛 Her daughter Tessa and partner Kieran welcomed baby Yuki in July, and Kimi took her first-ever summer break from the farm to be with them in BC.

The most rewarding part of raising beef for us is feeding young families who are looking for the very best for their kids. Thank you for choosing us. It makes every bit of effort worth it.

🥩 Harvest time is coming. We have a limited number of steers available as custom-butchered whole or half sides. Orders close October 15, with meat ready about a month later. DM us or message Kimi directly to reserve yours.

Warm greetings everyone!

May is the month when the land is pulsing with life and possibility! Trees and bushes are presenting their new leaves and plants everywhere are pushing new life out of the ground. New born baby geese, still yellow are out for their first waddle and swimming parade!

Our greenhouse nursery is full of seedlings waiting to go into their beds in the market garden and the cows are gazing at the pasture with anticipation. We are putting up the fencing lines for the last few paddocks and hopefully next week the herd will start their 28 day rotational grazing cycle on sweet new grass! The chickens just moved to a new spot by the swimming pond and they are loving it - abundant new forage and cedar trees for shade. Come on by the farm store for pasture-raised organic eggs.

The month of May is also bringing our amazing volunteer team out to work in the permaculture orchard. YAY! Of all the projects we have started at the farm, the orchard has been the most neglected. However, that is not a bad thing. It has given us an opportunity to rethink its purpose. Where originally I envisioned a large section devoted to various types of apples and pears for c***r, I now want to create more of a diverse food forest. Stay tuned for news about our redesigned orchard plans. And, if anyone has any ideas or experience to share in this area, please reach out.

Warm greetings everyone!

Now that we are officially a week into Spring, I’m happy to report that all of us at Merkaba Acres are doing really well. The season brought more snow than ever and stretches of extreme cold, yet the cows continue to spend almost all their time outside. Free to come and go anytime, they prefer the outdoors and are hardier and healthier for it. Us two-leggeds as well!

Swinging into Spring, we had a couple of beautiful warm, sunny days that got us all giddy and brought on the big thaw. Snow became streams flowing everywhere which of course led to ankle deep water in the farmhouse basement. Then overnight came icy, pouring rain and high winds that eventually knocked the power out - FLASHBACK to ice storm 2025! But that same day our attention shifted with the arrival of robins, soft, fuzzy p***y willow buds, a pair of honking swans flying by overhead - reminders of the joy of Spring.

Now, as I glance out the window, it’s snowing again - sideways - heavy snowfall is still in the forecast.
Up, down and all around. At this time of year here at the farm, change is sudden and noticeable. So, we do our best to dance to the beat of nature’s rhythm.

Hello Merkaba Friends!

Thank you to everyone who purchased our meat last year, we received some glowing reviews.

In December, we prepared 100 servings of beef stew that was distributed to homeless and at risk youth in Toronto through the caring team of volunteers at FEEDTO.

We started the New Year with a fantastic Farm-to-Table dinner event in Toronto at Pluto, a 4th space community and co-working venue co-founded by my son, Adam Lewis. Merkaba community member Renee (Chez Renee) prepared a delicious four-course meal using ingredients directly from the farm. We were thrilled the event sold out and was attended by a truly wonderful group of folks! We hope to hold more of these experiences in the future.

ABOUT OUR BEEF🥩

We raise our cattle as naturally as possible, in a way that honours their life and the land they live on. Our priority is the health of our animals, the health of the soil, and the health of those who eat our food.

For that reason, our cattle are pasture-raised in a rotational grazing system and only offered omega-rich, non-GMO, grain-free h**p from time to time. All of our animals are raised and grazed together and make their way around the pasture every month as a herd.

Each animal we harvest offers us opportunities to learn and grow. We use these lessons to adapt and solidify our practices to constantly improve the well being and nutrition of our animals and the resulting quality of our meat.

Our herd is a mix of crossbred Wagyu and Black Angus.This is a unique combination of two prized breeds that create a truly unique flavour and nutrition profile. We harvest 7-10 animals per year with a certified Halal butcher to offer to our customers.

At Merkaba Acres we proudly produce food following organic and regenerative principles and practices.
