Well the rain finally gave me a day out of the tractor today. I can't say I was terribly excited about the rain, but I figured I might as well make the best of it.

So tonight Sam and I gave Alicia the night off from cooking and decided we were making supper.

We took one of our Evergreen Alley round steaks, cut it into strips, battered it and fried it. It was a bit more time consuming than most of the meals I make, but I have to admit it was worth every minute. We made a peppercorn gravy to go with it and there wasn't much left when we were done.

Not a bad way to spend a rainy day.

One of the best parts of late summer is the skies,
The second is the food!

Late summer means the freezer is filling up with chickens, turkeys, beef and pork, And the hens are still laying strong so lots of brown eggs. There’s lots of neat photo opportunities around the farm too.

One of the best parts of late summer is the skies,
The second is the food!

Late summer means the freezer is filling up with chickens, turkeys, beef and pork, And the hens are still laying strong so lots of brown eggs. There’s lots of neat photo opportunities around the farm too.

Well the hay was too wet to bale tonight. We got about 7 drops of rain this morning, but there wasn't enough wind afterwards to dry the bottom of the swath out.

Oh well. Not much I can do about that.

On the bright side, I was sitting in my favourite chair before 10 tonight. That doesn't happen very often this time of year.

And apparently we're at the no socks stage of summer.

I'm taking that as a win.

Well it’s been a hot minute! Literally. 🥵

Between gardens and haying and fixing and working and trying to keep animals hydrated, life this July has been busy. These are the months that sometimes we question our life choices 🤣 though only briefly.

We aim to raise everything we sell, and that includes raising as much of the feed as we possibly can too. What we can’t raise, we source locally. It’s ambitious but worth it. And knowing what we’re eating is actually good for us, tastes amazing, and always has great reviews from others satisfies more than our taste buds.

Couple updates:
Beef boxes are restocked
Chickens are restocked
Turkey preorder list is growing
Three options of dog treats are available.

Killarney, deloraine, minnedosa and Winnipeg can all be done

We are so incredibly grateful that our winter feed blends escaped the hail this week, Alicia’s garden experiment didn’t escape but it’s not a complete loss either 🤞🏻🤞🏻

We do our best to raise as much of the feed that our animals need ourselves as we possibly can.
Is it a lot of work? Yes.
Is it worth it? We believe so. And the proof is in your feedback, when we hear some of the responses to the quality of the meats, we know what we’re doing is working.

Wednesday is our typical delivery day to boissevain/Minto/Brandon, we deliver right to your home.
On farm pick up is also welcome, we just need to know ahead so we’re in the yard when you arrive 😆
