🌻🐝 The sunflowers are starting to bloom, and the bees are busy at work in the patch!

After such a challenging growing season, we’re especially excited to see a little colour starting to pop. 💛 We’re looking forward to opening the pumpkin patch in just 2 weeks and sharing it with you!

As summer starts to wind down, take a moment to slow down, soak it all in, and stop and smell the flowers. 🌻✨

🎃 Pumpkin Patch Update 🎃

We wanted to share a difficult but hopeful update on this year’s pumpkin patch.

The pumpkin patch will NOT be open the first or second weekend of September. We are hoping to open for the third weekend of September, but at this point, it will depend heavily on the weather. The patch is over a month delayed to where it should be at this time of year. Only about half of the patch was able to be planted with pumpkins. The other half was simply too wet and was drowned out by all the moisture, leaving us with significantly fewer plants than we normally have. In fact, some of the drowned-out areas are now growing cattails!

The patch has been under a tremendous amount of stress from the rain, and honestly, it has been a heartbreaking year for us. 💔🎃 This is also why we’ve been a little quieter than usual—we’ve been working hard behind the scenes and hoping for a turnaround.

The good news is that the past week has brought some encouraging signs! 🌱🎃 The pumpkins have started growing, and we’re seeing lots of new flowers in the patch. If the sun keeps shining and we get some warmth, we’re hopeful that we’ll have pumpkins ready for you by the third weekend of September.

We’re taking it week by week and will keep everyone updated as we know more. Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and continued support of our family farm. ❤️

We’re still holding out hope for some August and September sunshine! ☀️🎃

Open Farm Days was one week ago, and we’re still thinking about it! ☺️😊

What a weekend it was! We loved opening our gates, sharing a little piece of our farm, and connecting with so many amazing people from near and far. 6 tours and 2 days! This was our 5th Alberta Open Farm Days event.

This year’s theme, Rangelands & Pastoralists, gave us the perfect opportunity to talk about our pastures, rotational grazing, and how we work with the land to raise cattle in a sustainable way 🌱

A huge thank you to everyone who came out, asked questions, shared stories, and supported our farm.

It was a pleasure to host Alberta Open Farm Days again this year! 🌾

The 2026 theme was “Rangelands & Pastoralists,” which gave us a great opportunity to share how we manage our land, livestock, and pastures here on the farm.

Throughout the weekend, we talked about:

🌱 Grazing & pasture management — including rotational grazing and the different grasses found in our pastures
🐄 Cattle nutrition — a mature cow typically consumes about 2–2.5% of her body weight in feed each day. For a 1,650 lb cow, that’s roughly 40 lbs of feed every day!
🚜 Razer grazer & fencing — how we use it to help manage our pastures
⚡ Electric fencing and how it fits into our grazing system
🌽 Corn grazing and how we utilize it as part of our cow feeding program
🎃 Our pumpkin patch — including how this exceptionally wet year has impacted the patch
🌧️ The impact of the wet year on our farm, pastures, and overall management

We were so happy to welcome visitors from South Africa, Nova Scotia, Devon, St. Paul, Cold Lake, Bonnyville, and many communities in between!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and spent part of their weekend with us. We loved sharing a little glimpse into our farm and what goes into caring for the land and livestock we’re so proud of

We’d like to thank the Municipal District of Bonnyville and the Agriculture Service Board as well as the staff who attended along with our 110 visitors.

We appreciate the opportunity to host one of your stops on August 6 tour in our community. We shared what we do on our farm, our staff, and flooding challenges this year.

We had lots of excellent questions and everyone left with a smile even though it was a cool wet day.

Thank you!
