‘A fresh start for the future of our PEI oysters. 🦪

This disease-resistant oyster seed arrived in PEI on Thursday fromMook Sea Farm and is already thriving in the waters of Rustico.

Imported from the U.S. and produced using disease resistant Rutgers Haskin NEH broodstock, this seed is an important step in helping rebuild our oyster supply following the impacts of MSX. Over the next few years, these tiny oysters will grow in the clean, cold waters of PEI before making their way to tables across North America.

Did you know? Every oyster cage is manually flipped approximately every 3 weeks as part of the growing process.

Each cage stays flipped for 24–48 hours, exposing marine growth and fouling to the air so they naturally dry out and fall away. Once cleaned, the cages are flipped back into the water.

This simple but essential practice helps keep the cages clean, ensuring the oysters have better access to the nutrient-rich water they need to grow into the premium oysters you enjoy. 🦪💙

These beauties were put in the water as naturally collected seed in November 2025. After 18 - 21 months growing in the clean, cold waters surrounding Prince Edward Island, they’ll be ready to make their way to your plate in Spring 2027.
