🌾 SUPPLIER HIGHLIGHT - ISLAND MALT HOUSE 🌾
•
Malt is the foundation of every beer we make, and we’re incredibly fortunate to source the bulk of ours from Island Malt House right here on PEI.
•
From malted barley and wheat to oats, you’ll find Island Malt House grain in every Lone Oak beer. Beyond providing fermentable sugars, malt plays a huge role in everything from body, foam retention and colour to flavour, aroma and overall brewhouse performance. Being able to work directly with Garry and Redmer allows us to understand the raw materials we’re brewing with and build recipes around the characteristics of their malt rather than simply selecting something from a catalogue.
•
Island Malt House opened in 2019 — the same year we did — and it’s been pretty special growing alongside them. Over the years, we’ve been able to work together on malt specifications, recipe development and beers that put locally grown and malted grain front and centre.
•
There’s also something pretty unique about being able to pop into the malthouse on the way to the brewery, talk through a crop or a batch of malt, and then brew with it shortly afterward. That level of connection between farmer, maltster and brewer is something we definitely don’t take for granted.

Great beer starts long before the grain reaches our mill. We’re proud that for us, a big part of that process happens right here on Prince Edward Island. 🌾🍻
