Exciting for me and maybe interesting to some: I've finally built controllers for the greenhouses. These little boxes monitor temperature and control fans and motors on the roll-up side walls.

They're connected via Wi-Fi to a local server running Home Assistant and ESPHome, which I access from my phone. No subscriptions.

The controller brains are consumer-grade ESP32-based PLCs from M5STACK called the Atom, which I've been using elsewhere around the farm trouble-free for 5 years. The single most expensive component is actually the box, at about $55.

I like to use DS18B20 temperature sensors because you can chain together as many sensors around the greenhouse as you like using one set of wires (I use phone wires and splitters), because they all communicate on one wire.
