Hutchinson Farm is a family owned and operated farm, in Burlington, Ontario, nestled along the Niagara Escarpment, just a short scenic drive north of the city. We grow everything that we sell, and our philosophy is a simple one: flavour comes first! Each year we plant the best tasting varieties in our fields, and pick them at their flavour peak. We have beautiful strawberries today!
Our farm store is open 9-6 weekdays, 9-5 weekends, and for those of you wondering where we are, we’re in Burlington, 6202 Walker’s Line!
Our pickers are out at dawn every morning making sure you get the freshest berries possible, sorry no pick your own.

The loop de loops of garlic scapes are absolutely delightful. Left on the plant, they will be perfectly straight in two weeks, but we cut them off -mostly because we like to eat them!
They taste just like garlic, only milder, use them wherever you use garlic.
We have lots now, but get them soon, they be pretty much finished by July ☹️

Geranium update…
On the left is a Pinto seed geranium that I grew, on the right the same cultivar that I bought at a local box store, it was really cheap!
Mine is putting on a wonderful show, I count 13 blossoms on mine, 5 on the other guy’s.
Now that we have strawberries our geraniums are on sale 3 for the price of 2.

We’re growing Belgian Mums for the very first time!
We just finished planting 12 varieties, so if all goes well, we will have all sorts of colourful mums in late September, early October.
I’m excited to see how they progress over the summer, fingers crossed for a successful crop😊

Our lilies are finally blooming!
The first to bloom is Kaveri, an Oriental-Asiatic hybrid… isn’t it gorgeous!
It is supposed to be slightly fragrant, I can smell nothing, likely it will become stronger in following years, however the asiatics are less fragrant than the Orientals, which some people tell me may be a good thing 😱
We have more lilies about to bloom, stay tuned!

Are we in for a hot dry summer?
Gazanias are a great choice, they can take the heat like no other, and are forgiving (within reason) in dry conditions.
Geraniums like it on the dry side also. For a trailing flower, scaevola is the very best for tough conditions, this Australian native thrives in the heat, and can take the wind!

Nonstop Begonias are certainly the champion of all begonias. Those blossoms are stunning and come in so many colours: orange, red, pink, yellow, apricot, and my favourite, Rose picotee (orange felt neglected so I took her picture).
They grow in sun or bright shade, but there are better options for long hot afternoon sunny areas. These are upright and can be planted in the ground or containers! We still have a good selection of all colours!
