I don’t even really know where to start with this one.

It has been a week of very long days, very little sleep, a ridiculous amount of driving, lifting, organizing, reorganizing, checking lists, answering messages, and doing our absolute best to make sure everyone got their Thanksgiving turkey.

And somehow, in the middle of all of that exhaustion, there is so much gratitude.

Farming is one of those things where your heart really has to be in it. Because if you counted the hours, or the missed sleep, or the number of times you said “I’m never doing this again” while knowing full well you absolutely will… it probably wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense.

But then weeks like this happen.

We get to hand over food that we raised to families who are going to gather around their tables and share it with the people they love.

And suddenly the long days feel pretty damn worthwhile.

There are so many people who helped us get through this week. Our family and friends stepped up in a BIG way – delivering turkeys, moving things around, helping with Amelia, and generally making an absolutely insane, never-ending week a whole lot easier.

We truly could not have done it without you.

And to our customers – thank you.

Thank you for continuing to show up for our farm. Thank you for trusting us to raise your food. Thank you for telling your friends about us, coming back year after year, meeting us at markets, ordering from the farm, and choosing to spend your hard-earned money supporting a local farm.

There are a lot of easier and cheaper ways to buy food.

The fact that you choose us is something we will never take for granted.

Long Lane Farms has grown and changed so much over the years, and we simply would not be where we are today without the people who have supported us along the way.

So from two very tired farmers with very full hearts – thank you.

We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by good people, good food, and maybe a Long Lane turkey in the middle of the table.

P.S. Thank you for an absolute SELL OUT turkey year. Every single bird found a home. That one feels pretty incredible. ❤️

LAST DELIVERY

This is our last delivery before thanksgiving! Next week we will be going crazy mixing and matching our turkeys for their delivery schedule.

So if you need chicken, ham, ribs, or really anything else make sure to get your orders in!

2pm is order cut off for delivery tomorrow.

Orders placed after that and next week will not be fulfilled until October 16.

A little Thanksgiving delivery heads up!

We will not be offering regular delivery on Friday, October 9. That week is turkey week, and we simply don’t have the capacity to run our regular delivery route on top of everything else.

So if you need anything from us for Thanksgiving, get your order in for delivery this week!

Thanksgiving turkeys will still be delivered as planned between Wednesday, October 7 and Saturday, October 10.

Regular Friday delivery will resume after Thanksgiving.

Plan ahead, friends. Thanksgiving is coming up fast!

Back-to-back tournament champs.

But honestly, that’s probably the least important part of this post.

For the past three years, being part of The Bogie Chuggers has been one of my favourite parts of summer.

Farm season is chaos. I spend most of it running from one thing to the next, working stupid hours, and telling myself I’ll slow down when things calm down. Which, obviously, they never do.

But on Thursday nights, I do.

For a few hours every week, I leave the farm, forget about everything that needs to be done, and go play baseball with some of the best people.

We laugh. A lot. We chirp each other. We play some baseball. And for one night a week, there’s nowhere else I need to be and nothing else I need to be doing.

I don’t think they even realize how much those Thursday nights fill my cup during a season when I’m usually running on empty.

So yeah, winning the tournament for the second year in a row is pretty damn cool.

But getting another summer with The Bogie Chuggers was the real win.

Thanks for a great year, Chuggers. Already counting down until next season.

Spike got in the side-by-side while we were finishing up chores this morning and decided he wanted a snack of leaves.

Not the leaves within reach, though.

He wanted the premium leaves. The ones that were just out of his reach.

So naturally I stopped what I was doing, pulled an entire branch down, and held it there while he casually enjoyed his snack.

No effort on his part. Just leisurely standing in the side-by-side being hand-fed a tree.

At some point I’d like to remind everyone that Spike is a farm animal.

Unfortunately, nobody has told Spike.

He has staff.

This is why we make what we make.

I could talk all day about why we chose to keep our tallow lotion simple. Why we don’t think you need 17 different products for 17 different parts of your body. Why we don’t think skincare needs a mile-long ingredient list.

But messages like this say it better than I ever could.

Our tallow lotion is just tallow, jojoba oil, beeswax and arrowroot. That’s it. No water. No fillers. No ingredients added just because the skincare industry has convinced us they need to be there.

Just really good, simple ingredients that do what we want them to do.

And no, I’m not going to tell you our lotion treats burns, rashes or skin conditions. It’s skincare, not medicine.

But when someone messages us to say their skin was angry, itchy and painful, they reached for something we made, and it gave them almost immediate relief?

That’s pretty damn cool.

This is the power of going back to basics.

Maybe our skin doesn’t need nearly as much crap as we’ve been convinced it does.
