Our May long weekend was very busy, capitalizing on the great weather by putting our first flock of chickens out to pasture! Our chicken tractors are slowly making their way across the field, and the birds are LOVING the fresh air and grass! Hard to believe in just 5 short weeks they’ll be ready for your family’s table. We have already started taking pre-orders for our first flock, make sure to reach out so you don’t miss out! No deposit necessary, contact us here on Facebook, check out our new website crookedpostfarms.ca, or give Ben a text and we’d be happy to add you to our list for our first flock!

One of the most common questions we get is “what do you feed your chickens?”
The diet of our animals is incredibly important, everything our birds eat (good or bad) eventually ends up inside us, so we are incredibly selective with what we feed them.
Chickens cannot survive on grass and insects alone, so we supplement their diet with high quality, Non-GMO chicken feed that is sourced from local feed mills. This feed is formulated by nutritional experts who prioritize bird health and well being, producing a balanced, nutritious grain for our flocks.
This year we’re very excited to be putting our new gravity wagon to use, storing bulk feed for when our birds are on pasture. Receiving feed in bulk reduces our usage of non-recyclable feed bags, which we feel is important for seeking a more sustainable and waste-free future. Enjoy the warm weather and have a wonderful May long weekend!☀️

🐥The 2026 season has officially begun!!🐥
This weekend we received our first flock of the year, and they are happily settling in to their new home. Our new brooder is doing a fantastic job, and we will continue to perfect the setup over the coming weeks to prioritize healthy, happy chicks.

Happy Friday everyone! We’re so happy to announce that we have been accepted as new members of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture! The OFA provides resources to farms of all sizes, opportunities for networking amongst farmers, and advocacy with political leaders and the general public. Also, did someone mention discounts on farm trucks…😉? We’re so excited for all these new opportunities, and can’t wait for what this season brings. Thanks again for your continued support!

The last few weeks have been busy, but spring is almost here! We’ve been experimenting with tapping some of our maple trees, to great success! While we won’t have enough to sell this year, it has been a fun experiment that we will certainly continue in years to come!🍁

It's a VERY exciting Friday! We're very pleased to announce that our application to join the Ontario Chicken Artisanal Program has been officially APPROVED! The artisanal program is a provincial initiative that enables small-scale farmers like ourselves to increase our flock size and to market our birds directly to our customers through farmers markets and grocers. Participating in this program also allows us to engage in a variety of workshops and seminars focused on enhancing our pasture-raised birds, leading to a healthier, more humane, and better tasting product for you and your family.

We are so very thankful for the ways God has blessed us and we are so excited for the opportunities he has in store for us this year. Stay warm everyone, spring is just around the corner!

Even on the coldest of days, farm work never stops!! Work on the new brooder continues, with some off-season cleaning and facility upgrades to prepare for the chickens and turkeys coming this summer! Thanks to the crew for spending their weekend cleaning the existing brooder and helping to frame the new wall. We’re upgrading from a singular 12x12 ft stall to a larger 20x12 ft stall with a small storage area. This summer the brooder will be put to work raising over 1000 chicks before they head out to pasture! Stay tuned for more updates!

Howdy everyone!! I’ve been taking steps to increase chicken production for 2026, which means I get to upgrade my equipment! I’m super excited to share that I have purchased this gravity wagon, which will be used to store large amounts of chicken and turkey feed out in the field.

Right now I’m in the process of applying to the CFO (Chicken Farmers of Ontario, also known as the chicken police!😋) to increase the amount of chickens I’m allowed to raise annually. This means lots of paperwork for me to confirm that the birds are raised in a healthy and safe manner. The goal as always is to provide a quality, nutritious product for both my family and yours. This application also allows me to sell my chickens at local farmer’s markets and to build relationships with local businesses.

I’m so excited for the opportunities that expanding my small farm will bring. Stay tuned for more updates as next summer approaches!!
