Balushai - my own version:
The year of 2006, my friends and I, used to take a rickshaw from Farmgate (Khamar-bari) to Aarong (to cross Manik Mia Avenue) during our golden days at Holy Cross College. The Rickshaw fare was 12tk. Some days, we were able to convince rickshaw mama to keep 10tk instead (2tk was a huge deal!). From Aarong, we used to walk as much as we could (given the hardship of late-hour labs at college!), just to save another 2tk. The reason behind all these "savings" was so that we could buy Beef tehari and sweets from "Muslim Bakery" beside Aarong. They used to sell Beef tehari outside in a huge "Patil" and inside, there was the heaven of sweets!! My favorite was "Balushai". Ah, those days! I can still remember, the day we finally were able to buy 1 packet of tehari and Balushai from that bakery! That day, all the way to my home, I was just smiling the winner's smile, because those were hard-earned money (ha ha ha)!!
Even now, after a thousand years (feels like it!!) sometimes I try to recall that sweet and fresh smell of the Balushai! Familiar anyone?
If you feel that way too, just to remind you of that sweet smell, I am adding Balushai to my menu alhumdulillah!

Assalamualaikum everyone!Welcome to my page Halal Kacchi Biriyani - Bangladeshi style!

As a Bangladeshi food lover, I myself was searching for authentic Bangladeshi style foods such as Kacchi biriyani (like we used to eat at Bangladeshi weddings!), Beef tehari (like we used to eat in Nilkhet!), Balushai mishty, Pudding, Chotpoti (with the special tok found in Dhanmondi 4), Chinese food (BD style of course) and what not!
I am sure, most of us are on the same page about how we feel and miss the special BD cooking style! I have tried many dishes at home, and after a few (read a lot of) trials and errors, I have achieved some similarities, Alhumdulillah.
That made me wonder, what if there are more foodies like me here in Hamilton City, sitting at home or at an office, already have a heavy heart missing the rest of the families back in Bangladesh, who are craving Bangladeshi food!!

So, here I am, hoping to slightly brighten your mood starting with Kacchi biriyani, Tehari, Borhani, Pudding, and Balushai. I hope you will try some, and I am open to any suggestions you might have inshaAllah.
