to my team, the heart behind so much of what made by akb has become,

somehow, in the middle of the day-to-day chaos and how busy life gets, each year I find myself realizing more and more that none of this exists because of just one person anymore.

what started as made BY akb very quickly became something I couldn’t fully take credit for anymore because the truth is, i’m nothing without my team.

every early morning, every late night, every chaotic saturday, every massive order, every last-minute rush, every pastry made, cake decorated, coffee poured, customer helped, mess cleaned and problem solved… there are so many moving pieces behind this little pink storefront that people never get to see.

and behind every single one of them is a team that continues to show up.

you guys have watched this business grow, change, get busier, become more demanding and reach milestones that once felt so far away. you’ve carried the weight with me on the exhausting days and celebrated with me on the really good ones.

there is something incredibly emotional about knowing that an idea I once started on my own has grown into a place where so many talented, hardworking people now leave their own mark every single day.

AKB may have started with me, but it has never grown because of me alone.

to my team: thank you for your patience, your loyalty, your creativity, your long hours, your attention to detail and for caring about this place like it matters to you too.

another look at this four-tier wildflower wedding cake because there were way too many details for one post. pastel blooms, cascading florals, delicate swans + the dreamiest little touches throughout — everything came together so effortlessly.

we wanted this cake to feel romantic without feeling too traditional, whimsical without being overdone, and completely at home in their beautiful reception space.

one of the coolest parts of having a storefront is never really knowing who’s going to walk through the door 💿

this summer, we had NINJA stop by akb + order a few cakes from us, which was such a fun little moment for the team. 🛬

for anyone who grew up listening to punjabi music, you probably know him from songs like “jinne saah” and “aadat.” getting to meet someone whose music has been around for years and then realizing they’re also incredibly humble, friendly + easygoing made the whole experience even better. 🎵

we’ve had such a busy summer at akb, so moments like this are always a nice reminder of how many different people our little shop gets to bring through the doors.

very grateful for every person who chooses to visit us, whether you’ve been coming for years, found us last week, or just happened to stop in while you were in the city.

wedding season is slowly making its exit 💍

a huge thank you to every couple who trusted us to be part of such a special day. every wedding cake that leaves our bakeshop has so much more behind it than what you see in the final photo. consultations, planning, designing, baking, decorating, structural work, transport + setup.

as much as we genuinely love working with different budgets, wedding cakes require a significant amount of time, labour, skill + attention to detail, and we have to make sure that work is priced accordingly.

with that being said, our wedding cake pricing will be increasing starting september 1st.

if you’re getting married in 2027 and already have your date, lock it in before september 1st to secure our current pricing 🤍

made with real, in-season cherries and finished with a delicate belgian white chocolate shell, la cerise is fruity, creamy, lightly sweet and perfectly balanced — nothing too overpowering, just enough of everything.

kicking it back 4 years to when akb was still under construction, our opening timeline kept getting pushed for the most ridiculous reasons, and every week felt like another “okay sooo… slight delay” 😭

building akb gave me a completely different perspective on what it actually takes to build a storefront from the ground up — literally. the permits, the construction, the delays, the decisions, the things going wrong behind the scenes… all while trying to hold onto the vision of what I knew this place could become.

looking back at this old content feels so surreal now. there’s something so fulfilling about seeing a version of yourself who had no idea how everything would turn out, but still chose to dream big enough to try.

my story with akb started at 20 years old with an idea, a lot of ambition, and probably no real understanding of how much work I was signing myself up for lol. somehow, that makes looking back even sweeter.

4 years later, there’s still so much I want to build, create, learn and grow into. this chapter was never meant to be the whole story — just the beginning.

to bigger dreams, more growth, more lessons, and continuing to make things happen for yourself even when the timeline looks nothing like you imagined. 😅
