🌱 A few seeds. A patch of soil. Nearly 3,000 pounds of fresh produce donated to the local community. 🥕🍅
What started as a small employee garden at Canada Malting Co.’s Niobe South Plant has grown into an annual tradition of teamwork, giving back and getting a little dirt under those fingernails. 🌿
This year alone? 1,533 pounds donated!

🎓 Class dismissed! The CMC Malting Course Class of 2026 understood the assignment.
No exams. No grades. No homework. Just 30+ customers from Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Japan coming together in Calgary for three days of barley fields, malt science, facility tours, sensory, supply chain, lots of questions, and maybe a b**r or two.

From getting our boots dusty at Antler Valley Farms to following barley through our Calgary malting facility, the goal was simple: Come curious, learn something new, meet great people, and have fun doing it

Our amazing Canada Malting team in Niobe, Alberta, just keeps sending fresh food to the local food bank, bringing this year’s total donation to 557 lbs so far!
Together, we’re not just growing food. We’re cultivating connections, supporting our neighbors, and helping nourish the community we’re proud to be part of.

Gold medal b**r. Filson vest. 🍻

Congrats to Fuggles B**r Co. on winning Gold for their West Coast IPA, Destiny, at the 2025 Canada B**r Cup! 🥇

Destiny: a West Coast IPA made with 82% Canada Malting 2-Row, 8% Canada Malting Munich, 8% Great Western Dextrapils, and 2% Great Western Caramel Steam.  Destiny is proof that quality ingredients make all the difference. Cheers to the team, and wear that vest proudly! 👏

Our Gold Medal Vest program is our way of celebrating these achievements. Brewers and distillers who earn Gold Medals at top competitions using Great Western Malting or Canada Malting Co. malt receive a custom Filson vest.

On July 14, our Niobe, Alberta team welcomed a number of their local barley producers for our annual Producer Appreciation Lunch.

The afternoon featured a barbecue lunch, conversations about new barley varieties, discussions on this year’s growing season, and a chance for producers to tour our barley trial plots and see firsthand how different varieties are performing.

Every great malt starts in the field, and our producers are at the heart of that journey. We’re grateful for their dedication, partnership, and commitment to growing exceptional barley.

Canada Malting has proudly called Calgary home since 1912, and seeing a Calgary brewery partner with a Calgary-born airline is something we could not be more proud of.

Just past the West runway from the Calgary Airport sits Tool Shed Brewing and Canada Malting, two local companies rooted in the same community and helping showcase Calgary across the world.

We’re collecting toys and winter clothing for the Ronald McDonald House, Mustard Seed, and Innisfail Christmas Bureau.

Drop off your donation at the Niobe North grain elevator in Alberta and you’ll be entered to WIN 4 tickets to a Flames game.
