This is what community looks like.
Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of partnering with some incredible local businesses, and one of my absolute favorites is 5 Vines Wine Craft Beer and Spirits
If you’ve never been in, they specialize in wines from around the world, have one of the best beer selections in town, and most importantly, they’re run by genuinely great people.
The owner, Jerome, is someone I connected with almost immediately. It only took a few conversations to recognize a fellow entrepreneur who believes deeply in what’s possible. Like me, he’s always looking ahead, always building, and always finding ways to make his community better.
Last week, Jerome sent me a message:
“Hey, I’m getting a group of local kids together to deliver flyers around the neighbourhood. Do you have anything you’d like to include?”
Honestly, I was blown away.
In a world where businesses are often competing for attention, here was another business owner thinking about how he could help someone else.
The timing couldn’t have been worse on my end. I’ve been a little under the weather and running behind on some projects. Designing a flyer had been pushed right to the last minute. Somehow, I managed to get it finished, printed, and into Jerome’s hands by about 3:30 this afternoon.
Then the weather turned.
Rain. Wind. Hail. Dark clouds. At one point, even snow.
Most people would have called it a day.
Not Jerome and not his crew.
His team of young entrepreneurial flyer-delivery champions pushed through it all and, with Jerome leading the charge, delivered 1,000 flyers throughout the neighbourhood.
Then, around 8:30 tonight, I received this photo.
A group of tired, proud kids gathered around a table, celebrating with a soda and a bite to eat after an evening of hard work. Rosy cheeks from the cold weather. Big smiles. Faces glowing with the kind of accomplishment that only comes from earning it.
This picture isn’t really about flyers.
It’s about community.
It’s about teaching young people the value of hard work.
And it’s about people like Jerome and the team at 5 Vines who consistently show up for others without expecting anything in return.
Thank you, Jerome.
Thank you to every one of these young entrepreneurs.
And thank you for reminding me that some of the best things we build in business aren’t products or sales—they’re relationships.
