Sandy Hill Charollais

Sandy Hill Charollais Producing top quality registered Charollais breeding stock using imported UK semen. MV Negative & GenOvis Recorded Flock.

Sandy Hill Charollais is owned by Gavin and Isabelle Nicol, located near the small hamlet of Markerville in central Alberta. We currently run 60 purebred breeding ewes, focusing on quality. All our ewes are bred by AI, using semen from the top performing Charollais rams in the UK. Our flock is Maedi Visna negative, tested annually, and we also scrapie genotype our flock annually. We enrolled onto the GenOvis program this year. We breed quality Charollais with lots of length, gigot and loin, and carefully select our AI rams in the UK for these traits. Our Charollais are raised on a forage based system, feeding very little grain. That is why we ONLY raise Charollais.

Pascal 83P just sold to Nelson Tome of Loretto, Ontario. Pascal is a quad out of our legendary ewe Sandy Hill Harriet 23H and Sandy Hill Maximus 60M (UK sire Springhill Untouchable). He has quite the genetics behind him, and he’s already a beefcake.

He is booked on the “bus” and will be heading east middle of this month.

The sheep are out of pasture with the drought again this year and we only have 2nd cut hay just now, hence the 💩 backend.

The transfer of owner on the registrations are all completed and signed and being mailed to CLRC today. Hopefully they do not take as long as our July sale transfers - we literally just got them back and they are also being mailed out today.

We would like to thank Robert Pennie from Ontario on the purchase of two of our ram lambs - SH Pursuit and SH Preacher.

They are settling into their new home and enjoying having some space after their long trip east.

Thank you for investing in our Sandy Hill genetics and keep in touch and let us know how they are doing.

We would like to thank the Banz Family in Quebec on the purchase of this group of powerful yearling ewes together with our stock ram, SH Matador. This group should produce some outstanding offspring. They also purchased a ram lamb to add to their lineup of Sandy Hill rams - SH Pegasus, who joins SH Juggernaut, K2 and our highest selling ram lamb SH Marcel ($7100).

This is an exciting venture going into purebred Charollais, and to start off with such a powerful group of females and unrelated ram.

They had quite the trip east taking an extra day due to highway closure in Northern Ontario, but they are now settling in to their new home.

We wish you all the very best with your new sheep and keep in touch and let us know how they are doing. Thank you Lina for all your help interpreting into French for Werner. It was very much appreciated.

Bien amicalement
Gavin & Isabelle

Big thank you to Mark & Tamy Frost and family on the purchase of these beautiful girls - SH Mickey, SH Myrtle, SH Pippin and SH Picollo. Pippin and Picollo were from a set of quads out of our legendary ewe SH Harriet, who now resides in southern BC. This is quite the powerhouse of female genetics they have added to their flock.

They also purchased our stock ram SH Maverick, sired by the UK ram Knockin Undercover Brother, whom we kept to add to our ram power. Maverick has been a very consistent producer and we were always extremely happy with his offspring. Joining Maverick is SH Phantom, a son of Jackpot, so we are very excited to see how they perform on Mark and Tammy’s flock.

Mark and Tamy have invested heavily in Sandy Hill genetics over the years and we were very happy to see them add some more of our beautiful sheep to their flock.

We wish you all the very best with them and cannot wait to see their offspring in the show ring to carry on our legacy.

Big thank you to Sarah Holmes in Ontario on the purchase of this cracking ram lamb SH Prankster. Prankster is a son of Jackpot, and like his sire he will make long fleshy muscular lambs.

Prankster is settling in after his long journey east. Keep in touch and let us know how he does.

Big thank you to John Davis (Highway 7 Farms) in Ontario on the purchase of the last of our Knockin Undercover Brother & Sandy Hill Maverick females.

They arrived at their new home at midnight, but are settling in well after their long journey across Canada.

John has been purchasing our genetics for a number of years and started with SH Hummer, a yearling ram we delivered to him during the pandemic.

SH Maggi (ewe with butt facing camera) is actually the sister to our stock ram SH Maverick, who now has a new home in Quebec.

Knockin Undercover Brother left us some really nice lambs and Maggi, Prada, Paris and Pixie will continue that legacy.

We wish you the very best with your new girls and look forward to seeing their offspring in the show ring in the future. Keep in touch.

Big thank you to Nelson Tome (Tome Farms) in Ontario on the purchase of SH Jackpot, SH Kracked It and 2 of our big powerful ewes - SH Kit Kat and SH Molly.

Nelson has been buying our genetics for a few years now and now owns 2 of our stock rams - the legendary Jackpot and Kracked It, a son of the infamous Hotshot. Both Jackpot and Hotshot have consistently produced some top class offspring for us, and now will continue under a different prefix.

We wish you the very best with your new purchases and please keep in touch.

Very happy to hear that all our sheep have all been safely delivered to their new homes in Ontario and Quebec despite a delay with the highway closed due to a very serious accident, which added an extra day to their trip. Thank you to Marvin Sauder (Tammar Equine) for taking good care of them and safely delivering them to their new homes.
