✨ Building Skills, Confidence, and Community in Rankin Inlet ✨
At the end of February, Tangmaarvik played a vital role in Rankin Inlet by hosting a hands-on cooking class that brought together 19 students for a week of culinary learning and exploration.
Led by Chef Gabriel Belanger Francoeur, alongside Tangmaarvik’s own Samantha Saumik and Kayla Katokra, students gained valuable experience in:
🔹 Safe food handling
🔹 Kitchen safety practices
🔹 Fundamental culinary techniques
🔹 Confidence building through practical cooking activities
Throughout the week, students prepared an impressive variety of dishes - from Arctic char gravlax on cucumber rounds and garlic bannock au gratin to breakfast sandwiches, chicken cordon bleu, full-plated meals, and shared classroom feasts. A highlight for many was being able to bring leftovers home to share with their families.
This Task Week experience not only strengthened culinary skills, but also fostered teamwork, pride, and meaningful learning. Tangmaarvik is proud to support youth development, skills building, and strong community partnerships across the region.
👏 A huge thank you to everyone involved for creating such a positive and memorable experience for local youth!
