Tiicma Fisheries is looking to name our newest aquaculture asset: our float house! This facility will be used to house our aquaculture technicians, putting them closer to our farm operations and soon to be deployed sablefish farm at Hohoae. Can you help us name this new facility (a Kyuquot language word pls) which will provide a safe place to stay and work from while operating our shellfish & sablefish farms. At PICFI CFE conference on Indigenous Fisheries and Aquaculture with fellow CFEs: Paul Muskey from Klahoose’s QXMC, Grace Adam’s from Tla’amin’s Pa’aje Shellfish, Blake Barton from TSou-ke’s TXIT and yours truly from Tiicma Fisheries as well as many more First Nations delegates here in Victoria for this annual conference. Recent follow-up check on our baby scallops at Amai Inlet shows the seed growing & 100% survival rate (surprising results after a long 10 hour transport from hatchery). Things are looking good so far ;-) .

Tiicma Fisheries will be offering half day farm tours starting in May! Invitation to join us is open to KCFN Citizens, individuals or groups of up to 10 people will be taken to our oyster farm in Cachalot Inlet, then to our scallop farm in Amai Inlet finishing with a tour of our partner's sablefish farm facility at "Charlie's Place". Beverages & snacks will be served and will be weather dependent. Hope to see young and old on iih Cupic for this exciting tour. Come and see how we sustainably farm seafood and ask our Farmtechs about having the most beautiful work place in the world!

Driving through snow to go put baby scallops into lantern nets at Tiicma Fisheries’ (Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k:tles7et’h’ First Nations) Amai Inlet farm on a crisp yet beautiful December day… never a dull moment farming the ocean sustainably and, still the best office in the world! We’ll have delish & luxurious jumbo scallops for market in 18 months 😉 Wishing all of you a warm and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

One can easily feel like nothing is ever accomplished by participating at DFO and WLRS meetings on aquaculture policy & regulatory meetings like the SF AMAC but I am pleased to share with you that, as a result of a committee member’s recommendation (yours truly), that from now on, both levels of government will advise a First Nation when an aquaculture license or tenure licence of occupation is about to be terminated. This gives First Nations an opportunity to notify the governments of their position concerning extinguishing a tenure/licence which is a positive step for Indigenous aquaculture development. Good result for all imo! 😊👍🏼

Amazing weather in Kyuquot was great for installing longlines at Amai with the help of the Golden Eagle Sablfish barge crew and these two Tiicma Fisheries stars!
