As we begin the thanksgiving festivities for the weekend, I can’t help but be grateful for the amount of support that I’ve gotten in the cattle world and the amount of joy that my (and everyone else’s) cattle bring me. Now that we’ve been home from Olds for a week and hustling to get things done before the true snow flies, it’s nice to look back just a bit.

I might be a little late in my post from Olds Fall Classic but it’s been a whirlwind! Walking away with Reserve Champion Intermediate heifer calf and Reserve Champion Senior bull calf was definitely not something I was prepared for! I once heard a quote, “Keep going until your idols become your rivals”, and that holds true. Competition was deep and I am incredibly thankful for the chance to be able to exhibit my animals.

Huge thank you to the Olds show committee, sponsors, Garrett Liebreich for evaluating cattle all weekend, Buck for everything he does, my awesome stall crew (V), and the KG crew as well.

My final thank you is for my amazing momma who looks after my critters when I am out and about, doing what I love. She keeps things fed, sends me funny pictures, and keeps me sane.

Be thankful for those in your corner friends. 🍁

As summer slowly comes to a close and weaning is on the horizon, we took a moment to picture some of the hard working ladies that keep us in business!

As the bountiful hay crops are coming off and the fields are turning, we are looking forward to show season and saying hello to friends down the road and looking at what the cool matings resulted in. Here’s to a nice long Fall and an easy beginning to winter 🍂 🍁

It’s warming up out there! ☀️ And the Prairie Select is only 11 short days away! Mark your calendars, the angus, shorthorn, and Hereford offering will be top notch! Bulls and females sell, come for lunch!

My second consignment is a bull I think pretty highly of and has roots deep into my purebred herd; his dam being my first ever purebred I purchased. JLA 7N is rugged in his make up, everything about him screams herd sire. Though I wouldn’t necessarily use him on heifers, he will calve easy. Have never touched a calf coming out of his dam or maternal siblings! He carries loads of capacity and the thickness from behind is something to admire. There’s so much top on this bull, he grew up to be quite the specimen. Smooth made, balanced and still maintains expressive muscle and that herd bull look.

His sire is none other than Schiefelbein Attractive, a bull known for producing exceptional offspring. Pretty cool pedigree on this calf, likely an outcross to most, but at the end of the day, he’ll get your cows bred and you’ll love the calves. They’ll weigh up and the only issue you’ll have is booking the ticket to Mexico or Cuba ✈️

On this crazy windy morning, it seems like a great time to announce my two sale consignments to the Prairie Select bull and female sale. It seemed wrong to attend a sale with only one bull, so both of my black angus yearling bulls will be on offer and ready for your appraisal!

JLA 7N and JLA 9N have been standouts since they were young. When the steer market is so high, it took a lot for me to keep bulls back. There was no doubt in my mind on these two.

You know how sometimes you have a bull and he looks pretty cool as a calf… then at weaning, he’s the heaviest bull in the pen and still a pretty cool guy. Flash forward to clipping and picturing and oh baby 🥵
JLA 9N really packed it on. Sound from the ground up, he’s got tons of depth, length, and enough width over the top to serve Thanksgiving dinner! With an interesting pedigree to boot, HF Rosebud x S Architect, this guy might be a bit of an outcross that you are looking for.

Another chilly 🥶 evening getting cows tucked into bed and hoping there’s no calves while we take a cat nap!

The Charolais division at Starstruck is pretty small, consisting of one cow, her yearling bull, and her heifer calf! I love this cow and her maternal abilities so much that it’s safe to say her heifer calf isn’t leaving either!
