A new chapter in Norway’s royal history. 🇳🇴👑

Following the passing of King Harald V today, his son has succeeded him as King Haakon VIII, with Queen Mette-Marit by his side. The couple married in Oslo Cathedral in 2001 and have now stepped into their new roles at the head of Norway’s Royal House.

At the same time, Queen Sonja remains Queen Sonja. She keeps her title following the death of her husband, meaning Norway now has two women holding the title of Queen: Queen Sonja and Queen Mette-Marit.

After 35 years with King Harald V on the throne, Norway enters a new era — while Queen Sonja, after decades of service alongside her husband, remains an important part of the Royal Family. 🇳🇴❤️

🇳🇴 BREAKING: KING HARALD V HOSPITALIZED

Norway’s 89-year-old King Harald V has been admitted to hospital for treatment related to a blood disorder. The Norwegian Royal Palace says the King is on sick leave for two weeks while Crown Prince Haakon serves as Regent.

Norways King Herald is in serious condition. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and those surrounding him. He is the oldest living Monarch.

🇳🇴 Norway’s King Harald’s health has deteriorated, according to a statement from the Norwegian Royal House. Crown Prince Haakon and Queen Sonja are also cancelling all their official engagements until further notice.

The announcement has drawn attention across Norway as the royal family focuses on King Harald’s health during this difficult time. ❤️🇳🇴
