Somewhere in the middle of winter, after the drought had taken almost everything, I honestly wasn’t sure I had it in me to keep fighting for this farm anymore.

But even in the hardest moments, I never lost faith in local agriculture.

When the .loyal CSA pilot program launched, I shared a few thoughts online and spoke with CBC about the importance of local food resilience here in Nova Scotia. As a blueberry farmer, I truly didn’t think there was a place for me in the CSA world.

Then (Josh Oulton) from reached out and simply said:
“I think we both really believe in community-supported agriculture.”

That conversation changed everything.

In the dead of winter, long before blueberry season, TapRoot chose to believe in me, our story, and the value of Nova Scotia wild blueberries. They brought our berries into their CSA offerings and also brought in our blueberry balsamic dressing and blueberry maple marinade for their customers.

At a time when I didn’t know how to move forward, that support helped light the fire again.

It reminded me that local food systems survive because people choose each other. Because community matters. Because relationships matter.

A heartfelt thank you to Josh, Patricia, Kaitlyn, and the whole Taproot team for being such a bright light during some very dark months.

Because of people like this, we’re still here.
Still growing. Still believing in a stronger Nova Scotia food system. 🫐
