Easter dinner is a natural setting for traditional method sparkling 🥂✨

Our Crémant Rosé, made from 100% Nova Scotia grapes, is crafted in the méthode traditionnelle from estate-grown L’Acadie Blanc and Léon Millot. Aged on lees and carefully finished, it offers fine bubbles with notes of cranberry, citrus, and delicate florals—fresh, balanced, and well suited to a spring table.

Over the weekend, we began disgorging our traditional method sparkling wines.

After months aging on lees, each bottle is carefully disgorged—removing the frozen plug of sediment created during secondary fermentation. It’s one of the final steps in the traditional method process before the bottles are topped, corked, and caged.

A delicate process, but one of the most satisfying stages in sparkling wine production—and a sign that these wines are getting closer to being enjoyed 🥂

Twice a year, members receive a shipment of three or six bottles, each handpicked by our winemaker, Simon Rafuse. Shipments feature exclusive small lot releases—available only at the winery—alongside award-winning wines recognized at competitions such as the Decanter World Wine Awards, the WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada, and the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence in Nova Scotia Wine.

A winter vineyard update from our Vineyard Manager, Harold Gaudy:

“Snow is a welcome sight in the vineyard right now, acting as a natural insulator for the dormant vines — and offering a quiet kind of beauty this time of year.

Pruning is underway, though at a slower winter pace. The wood is looking healthy, even as the effects of the polar vortex of 2023 remain visible in some older trunk splitting. It’s nothing unexpected, and we’re prepared to establish new trunks as the season unfolds.

Between the rows, in the shop, and in the office, winter is a balance of pruning, maintenance, planning, and more than a little plowing. With optimism (and patience), we’re looking ahead to the 2026 vintage.”

Our 2008 Grande Réserve was Blomidon’s first Traditional Method sparkling wine, made from 100% estate-grown Chardonnay from our Old Block. The base wine underwent full malolactic fermentation before being bottled and laid in tirage for more than 12 years, allowing the cuvée to build remarkable depth and complexity. Golden in the glass with a fine, persistent bubble, it shows notes of lemon, hazelnut, and fresh straw, with an Extra Brut dosage that highlights the elegance of extended lees ageing.

A fitting choice for ringing in the New Year 🥂✨
