Do your pipes bang when you shut the water off? 💥

That's called water hammer.

It happens when water moving through your pipes suddenly stops, creating a pressure surge that can cause loud banging and unnecessary wear on your plumbing system.

📸 For this project, we installed water hammer arresters to absorb that pressure and protect the system.

Sometimes the best repair isn't replacing a part. It's finding the cause of the problem and fixing it the right way.

This is a system that works around the clock to help protect your home's water quality, but like any hardworking equipment, it needs regular maintenance to perform at its best.

On this annual service, we replaced:
✔️ UV lamp
✔️ UV sleeve
✔️ 5-micron sediment filter
✔️ Carbon filter

Staying on top of your annual UV service helps ensure your system continues to operate efficiently and provides the protection it's designed for. Replacing the lamp and filters on schedule can also help extend the life of your equipment and prevent unexpected issues down the road.

Have you ever heard of water witching? 💧

Also known as water dowsing, water witching has been part of rural Canadian history for generations. Traditionally, a Y-shaped branch or two metal rods were used by some well drillers, farmers, and tradespeople in an attempt to locate underground water lines or wells.

While there's no scientific evidence proving that water witching works, it's a tradition that's been passed down through generations and is still practiced by some today.

Thankfully, plumbing has come a long way. Today, we use modern locating equipment and technology to accurately find underground water lines, helping us work efficiently while minimizing unnecessary digging.

Whether you believe water witching comes down to experience, instinct, tradition, or a little bit of luck, it has certainly earned its place in Canada's rural history!

Does your HOT water smell like rotten eggs, but your COLD water is perfectly fine? 🤔

It could be your anode rod.

📸 In this photo, Geoff is holding an old anode rod beside a new one. The anode rod protects your water heater from rust, but over time it wears out. On some well water systems, it can also cause that unpleasant sulphur smell in your hot water only.

The good news? You may not need a new water heater. In many cases, replacing the anode rod is all it takes!

Wow. We are honestly a little shocked this morning...

We woke up to a notification that Lanos & Clarke Plumbing was voted Bronze in Kawartha CommunityVotes, and the best part is... we didn’t even know we had been nominated!

We never shared the voting or asked anyone to support us, which means every nomination and vote came from people who chose to do it on their own. That has absolutely floored us.

Over the past year Lanos & Clarke Plumbing we’ve expanded our service area and taken on more work throughout Kawartha Lakes. To receive this kind of recognition while growing our presence here means so much.

Seeing our name alongside so many respected, well-established companies is an honour, and knowing our customers and supporters put us there makes it even more meaningful.
